The Intermediate School Principal serves as the site instructional leader and is responsible for the total operation of the school including the administration and supervision of all phases of the instructional program and management of the facility. The Intermediate School Principal shall provide leadership, administrative, and supervisory skills for the educational development of students as well as to promote parent and community involvement.


Job Summary:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other administrators, employees, citizens, and community members.
  • Experience in Conflict Resolution.
  • Ability in implementing the principles and current trends in elementary education, curriculum, staff development, essential elements of instruction and clinical supervision.
  • Good human and interpersonal relations.
  • Shared decision making skills.
  • Ability to lead staff toward instructional improvement and conduct staff development sessions.
  • Ability to establish a team concept and site councils.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Coordinate and supervise all activities and programs conducted at the building level.
  • Evaluate the implementation of programs within the building and provide in-service as needed.
  • Evaluate the performance of all staff and provide opportunity for improvement or take other steps as necessary.
  • Maintain responsibility for maintenance and proper utilization of facilities.
  • Be responsible for the overall achievement, welfare and conduct of students within the building.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching and school administration 
  • An earned Master’s degree with a major in educational administration
  • A valid building administration license issued by the Kansas State Board of Education
  • Other alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others, including the ability to communicate effectively with a broad number of audiences.
  • Ability to manage job responsibilities and to meet the established district outcomes.
  • Ability to use necessary district-identified computer hardware and software, and other district-provided technology.
  • Ability to physically adapt to the compressed time schedule of a school day and year.
  • Other alternatives as set by the Board of Education.

  • Supports use of appropriate communications skills.
  • Supports development of thinking skills.
  • Follows all district policies, handbooks, and regulations.

V. The employee works to develop effective and efficient performance.

  • Uses a variety of materials, activities and approaches appropriate to the needs of the position.
  • Develops and monitors plans and goals to improve individual performance.

VI. The employee practices responsible fiscal, facility, and resource management.

  • Procures supplies and equipment following building budget guidelines.
  • Establishes guidelines that ensure the care and maintenance of district facilities and equipment.

VII. The employee models positive professional attributes.

  • Participates in professional activities to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Uses written and spoken language well.
  • Maintains positive contact with supervisors and peers.
  • Handles work in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintains physical and skill requirements necessary to meet job responsibilities.

VIII: Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with USD 453 Board of Education policies.

Supervises:  Certified and classified employees assigned to the Principal's building.

 

Terms of Employment:  220 Day Contract
