Desirable Position Criteria

  • Valid Iowa Teaching License, required
  • Minimum: BA/BS in Elementary Education; evidence of additional coursework, workshop experience and leadership, required
  • Minimum five years of successful K-5 teaching experience/expertise OR 3 years of successful teaching experience and a Masters degree, required
  • Successful K-5 teaching experience, required
  • Reading endorsement (K-8), preferred

  • Ability to apply research-supported instructional practices across grade levels
  • Expertise in data-driven decision making
  • Ability to provide teacher professional development in instructional skills and strategies
  • Demonstrate ability to understand and interpret the Framework for Meeting the Learning Needs of All Students (or, at minimum, the concepts contained in the Framework)
  • Demonstrate ability to read and interpret a variety of types of data (Benchmarking, DIBELS, MAP, Iowa Assessments, classroom formative and summative assessments) and to use that data to guide instruction and grouping patterns of students
  • Demonstrate ability to design and lead professional development with small and/or large groups of staff members
  • Demonstrate desire to continue to grow and develop professionally, especially in content area(s) and/or instructional approaches
  • Demonstrate desire and ability to collaborate with other educators, including building and/or district leadership, instructional coaching team, and teachers
  • Demonstrate understanding of the Professional Learning Community concept and the manner in which it is connected to this position
  • Demonstrate understanding of the ITPDP process, and the manner in which it can be used to develop individual teachers as well as to work in tandem with building and district goals
  • Demonstrate willingness and desire to be coached in order to continue to grow professionally

Waukee is the fastest growing school district in the state of Iowa with more than 850 staff members serving more than 7,000 students in grades preschool through twelfth grade. Our schools serve students from Clive, Urbandale, Waukee, and West Des Moines as well as open enrollment students from other communities outside the 55 square miles of our district boundaries.
