Certification or licensure in School Speech / Language Pathology
by the State of Illinois.
JOB
GOAL
·
To provide a comprehensive program for students who are referred
to the speech / language impaired program and support literacy/curriculum
throughout the DS network.
KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
·
Comprehensive knowledge about assessment and remediation of speech
/ language impairments.
·
Knowledge of federal, State and county guidelines as it relates to
implementation of the speech / language
impaired program.
·
Ability to function as a member of the educational team and a
strong desire to work with children.
·
Effective and positive interpersonal communication skills.
·
Must be able to travel to various schools in the Chicago area.
PERFORMANCE
RESPONSIBILITIES:
·
Identify students who have speech and / or language impairments
through screening and / or diagnostic assessments.
·
Determine eligibility for the speech / language impaired program.
·
Schedule students for the speech / language impaired program
taking into account the total educational setting.
·
Plan and conduct a therapy program for eligible students. This includes implementation and annual
review of the Individual Educational Program (IEP).
·
Prepare and maintain charts, records, progress reports, and other
appropriate files on all speech / language impaired students.
·
Consult with parents, teachers, principals and others as
appropriate, concerning general guidelines of speech and language development
and specifically about the students enrolled in the program.
·
Provide statistical information for program planning; i.e., end of
year reports, matriculation reports, screening results, etc.
·
Order materials and supplies for program implementation.
·
Implement alternative communication systems for non-verbal students.
·
Provide workshops for teachers and other staff, when appropriate,
on applicable communication techniques
to assure follow-through.
·
Maintain certification and / or licensure requirements.
·
Abide by school, network, and district policies and other state
and federal laws and regulations concerning disabled students.
