E.L. Haynes Public Charter School was founded
in 2004 and has an award-winning program based on effective practices for
advancing student achievement. E.L. Haynes is among the top-performing charter
schools in Washington D.C., and is recognized locally and nationally as a model
and for our exceptional student achievement gains. E.L. Haynes currently
serves over 800 students in grades PreK-9 and continues to grow until it serves
PreK-12th grade.
Our Mission
Every E.L. Haynes student of every race,
socioeconomic status, and home language will reach high levels of academic
achievement and be prepared to succeed at the college of his or her
choice. Every E.L. Haynes student will be adept at mathematical
reasoning, will use scientific methods effectively to frame and solve problems,
and will develop the lifelong skills needed to be successful individuals,
active community members, and responsible citizens.
Description
In order to ensure
that every student is academically and socially successful, E.L. Haynes uses a
year-round calendar with extensive out-of-school time programming to give every
child access to consistent, comprehensive, high quality educational experiences
throughout the year. While typical schools offer 1,200 hours of mandatory
instruction, E.L. Haynes offers 1,200 plus an additional 1,000 hours of
academic enrichment through Year Round Programs to level the playing field so
that every student is prepared for college.
E.L. Haynes seeks to
hire individuals with a passion for urban education and a commitment to
professional development to support students’ growth through the planning and
leadership of activities during the Extended Day Program. Staff members will serve on one of the two
campuses at 3600 Georgia Ave, NW or 4501 Kansas Ave, NW in Washington, DC.
Job
duties include:

Planning
and Leading Activities During the Extended Day Program (Before and After
School)
o
Work
with grade-level teams to plan daily activities for a group of 12-15 students.
o
Assist
with homework completion and provide math and literacy support in various group
settings (e.g. one-on-one, small group and classroom instruction).
o
Design
and execute weekly expeditionary lessons including fieldwork, expert visits and
opportunities for service-learning.

Supporting
the Year Round Programs Operations
o
Assisting
with planning and facilitating professional development for all Extended Day
Program staff.
o
Assisting
with preparation for Intersessions.
o
Ensure
accurate attendance is maintained and scanned into the system on a daily basis.

Maximizing
Individual Growth through Participation in Professional Development
Opportunities
o
Respond
to constructive feedback from Site Managers incorporating suggested strategies
into future planning and instruction.
o
Participate
in regular professional development sessions focused on a variety of
educational topics.
o
Work
with a lead teacher to increase effectiveness of classroom management,
responsive classroom techniques, and lesson planning.
o
Assist
lead teachers with lunch or recess duty, not to exceed 2 hours a day.

Salary & Benefits
Compensation for this position is
$23,000/year as well as full benefits including medical and dental.
