TITLE: BUS DRIVER
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Possess a valid Tennessee Class A or Class B
driving license with school bus and passenger
endorsements;
2. Maintain current physical and mental
examination records as required by school policy;
3. Have at least three years driving
experience;
4. Be familiar with all local, state and federal
laws, rules and regulations pertaining to school bus
operation.
JOB GOAL
The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe
transportation of students of the Milan Special School
District.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
The Bus Driver reports to the Transportation
Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Abides by all local, State and Federal
traffic laws, rules and regulations;
2. Maintains, as nearly as possible, an assigned
schedule on a specific route;
3. Consults with the Transportation Manager
regarding suggested changes to routes, schedules and
policies;
4. Maintains discipline when students are on the
bus and reports uncorrected misconduct to the student's
principal;
5. Performs daily safety and mechanical
inspections on the assigned bus;
6. Reports all mechanical disorders to the
Transportation Supervisor;
7. Reports all traffic accidents promptly and
fully;
8. Cleans assigned bus daily to the accepted
standard;
9. Insures that the bus is checked at the end of
each day to guarantee that all students have left the
bus;
10. Does not use profanity or tobacco, in any
form, at any time on the bus;
11. Picks up and discharges students only at
authorized stops;
12. Exercises responsible leadership when on
out-of-district school trips;
13. Assists motorists in passing bus between
stops;
14. Is courteous at all times with students,
parents, and teachers;
15. Performs other duties as assigned by the
Transportation Supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job may require lifting of objects that
exceed 50 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of
objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Other physical demands that may
be required are as follows:

WORK CONDITIONS
Normal working environment will generally
prevail but some physical discomfort may be experienced due to
being outside of buildings and vehicles in varying weather
conditions.
