Qualifications:
1. Master’s Degree Preferred
2. Valid
Ohio Special Education Teaching Certificate or license (K-12)
3. Evidence
of a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience with some time as
a special education teacher.
4. Basic
understanding of special education law, terminology, procedures, and forms.
5. Working
knowledge of instructional methods, assistive technology, augmentative
communication, and behavioral supports used with special needs children.
6. Knowledge
or experience with techniques for establishing good home/school communications.
7. Professional
tact, diplomacy and presentation with administrators, staff, teachers,
students, parents and the community.
8. Demonstrate ability to establish positive rapport with
children.
9. Display enthusiasm and a sincere
desire to aid all students.
10. Conscientious and assumes responsibility for
own work performance.
11. Good
health, high moral character and good attendance record.
General Description:
Facilitate
various programs relating to special education
Essential Functions:
1. Be sensitive to the variations of educational
settings in different school buildings and among different personnel where
philosophy, values, size, level, organizational and cultural conditions may
affect the program in different ways.
2. Plan and/or facilitate appropriate programs and
coordinated services for special needs children.
3. Provide inservice to parents,
paraprofessionals, teachers and administrators regarding the educational needs
and characteristics of special needs children.
4. Provide consultation on teaching strategies and
appropriate materials for use by classroom teachers in assisting special needs
children.
5. Develop
educational evaluation and accountability procedures, curriculum and staff
development activities and instructional or classroom management strategies.
6. Assist
with the identification of students with special needs.
7. Assist
school personnel in evaluating, on a continuing basis, the strengths and
weaknesses of programs assigned to the coordinator and provide an annual report
in writing to the appropriate administrators.
8. Serve
as a liaison with school personnel, parents, community members, universities
and colleges, and other interested public organizations.
9. Maintain
communication and adequate records necessary in reporting to the Director of
Pupil Services.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serve as a role model for students in how to
conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
2. Help instill in students the belief in and
practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
3. Conduct other duties delegated by the Director
of Pupil Services.
