Athletic Director EPER PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

 

The Athletic Director will be responsible to participate, support, develop, promote, and implement a well-developed and planned school-wide athletic program in order to support appropriately prepared and competitive teams, while reinforcing the aspect of the "student athlete."    This should be done in line with alignment of programs at Central Middle School through Dover High School.   Summer hours may be required, pending responsibilities of the athletic director.    

 

The Athletic Director will also be responsible for the following:

 

·          Provides vision and leadership for a comprehensive athletic program.

·          Continually evaluates all facets of the athletic program.

·          Provides leadership in the recruitment, selection, supervision, and evaluation of qualified coaching and other athletic personnel.

·          Implements appropriate staff development programs for athletic personnel.

·          Coordinates all athletic programs and services.

·          Secures necessary help to conduct games and events.

·          Arranges for proper supervision of all athletic contests.

·          Publicizes the interscholastic athletic program.

·          Prepares and manages the annual athletic department budget.

·          Maintains an efficient financial recordkeeping and reporting system.

·          Determines facility and equipment needs for athletics and makes recommendations for improvement.

·          Assumes responsibility for the proper care of all facilities and equipment.

·          Schedules facilities for all interscholastic athletic contests.

·          Keeps the principal informed of all matters related to the athletic program.

·          Represents the school, where applicable, at conference, district, state, and national athletic meetings.

·          Manages all home athletic events, including the procurement of officials and necessary game workers, or assigns a game coordinator in his/her absence.

·          Coordinates the scheduling of school facilities for team practices.

·          Arranges for the transportation of teams.

·          Maintains appropriate records of award winners and arranges for the presentation of such awards.

·          Performs all other duties as assigned by the building principal.

·          Maintains files of student athletic/guardian agreements and coaches 'agreement.

·          Conducts coaches' evaluations in conjunction with the principal.

·          Conducts and submits end of season report for each sport.  

·          Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.

·          Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities, according to DSSAA (DIAA) regulations.

·          Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the athletic program, and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds.

·          Arranges field and gym practice schedules.

·          Keeps records of the results of all junior and senior high school athletic contests, and maintains a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award, including athletic scholarships.

·          Teaching assignment as needed for either health or physical education per semester.

 

Program and Staff Support

·          Supporting new and seasoned coaches in all areas of their coaching needs (i.e. schedules, fields, equipment, professional development, etc.)

·          Planning and providing staff development throughout the year in conjunction with DIAA and conference rules

·          Serving as a mentor for coaches and providing critical feedback and support in an appropriate and timely manner

·          Supporting faculty and staff   needs in order to facilitate improved communication between coaches and the school

·          Providing support to teams in recognition of their seasonal achievements

·          Serve as a resource for coaches needing increased monitoring and follow-up  

·          Implementing and/or supporting all aspects of the school mission and efforts for accreditation and improvement

·          Assist in the coordination and development of interviewing committees of coaching staff through the district hiring process

 

Oversight and Communication

·          Planning and leading coaches meetings a minimum of once a season month and providing agendas before, and minutes after those meetings to administration

·          Coordinates publicity photo shots and submissions to school, district, and local media agencies

·          In conjunction with building administration, publish season schedules (hard copy and electronic) on a timely basis for the dissemination to students, teachers, administration, and community

·          Communicating the needs of the athletic department to building and district administration

·          Working as a liaison between the athletic department and the building administration as well as the district

·          Active Member of the Middle States Accreditation Process and School Climate Committee

·          Help plan, organize and support booster meetings, building, and community meetings throughout the year (i.e. Scheduling Night, Freshman Orientation, Ninth Grade Showcase, Open House, etc.)

 

Budgeting and Materials

·          Keeping track of athletic department budget and staying within budget  

·          Keep appropriate inventory of materials and ensuring the teams have the equipment necessary to participate in sporting events in a safe and appropriate manner  

·          Overseeing the organization of storage closets or other areas related to the department

·          Developing and monitoring an athletic department budget  and ensuring details of expenditures are made and tracked

·          Coordinate the administration and storage of the athletic department materials and equipment  

 

Any other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·          Knowledge of athletics, athletic programs, and physical fitness.

·          Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding school district athletic programs, safety and health, and other areas under responsibility.

·          Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

·          Ability to evaluate, develop and implement athletic programs, activities and events, and make effective recommendations related to those areas.

·          Effective verbal and written communication skills.

·          Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.

·          Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.

·          Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

 

Qualifications Profile

·          Delaware State Certification in related area of Physical Education/Health

·          Successful experience managing and coaching athletic teams
