Student Transportation Specialist
This full-time, twelve month position is responsible for establishing and coordinating a comprehensive safety and
training program for District transportation services. Responsibilities include but are not limited
to: drafting policies and procedures
develop and utilize proactive student behavior management strategies,
coordinate disciplinary actions with students, parents, transportation
contractor and school principals and transportation training programs. Maintain
and develop District driver training and parent/student educational programs. Assist with the day to day management of the
student transportation services. Qualifications include: High
school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum three years’
experience working with student transportation systems including student
conduct procedures and public contact experience or equivalent combination of
education, training and experience as determined by the District. Must possess a good driving record and be
able to pass a physical including a drug test.
Desired experience includes classroom teaching or related student
conduct/management strategies, video recording systems operations and policies,
transportation and fleet management systems and service contract management
strategies. Entry level salary range is $38,500 - $45,200 per year depending on
qualifications/experience and includes a comprehensive benefit package.

Title: Student Transportation Specialist

SUMMARY: Position is responsible for establishing and
coordinating a comprehensive safety and training program for District
transportation services.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: drafting policies and procedures develop and
utilize proactive student behavior management strategies, coordinate
disciplinary actions with students, parents, transportation contractor and
school principals and transportation training programs. Maintain and develop
District driver training and parent/student educational programs. Assist with the day to day management of the
student transportation services.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
1. Oversee
and update a comprehensive safety and training program for the District’s
transportation services including but not limited to the drafting and/or updating
of policies and procedures.
2. Oversee
the transportation code of conduct and discipline program for the District’s
transportation services by utilizing proactive student behavior management
strategies.
3. Oversee
the maintenance and repairs of on-board video and GPS systems.
4. Assist
with management of the District Transportations Services Contract.
5. View on-board bus tapes in a random
fashion and when an incident takes place.
6. Maintain
personal contact with parents, drivers and administrators for each disciplinary
action.
7. Organize
meetings with parents, drivers, and principals when necessary.
8. Write
and modify discipline rules for publication in student/parent information
pamphlets.
9. Develop
and conduct a student conduct training program for bus drivers and
transportation paraprofessionals.
10 Field observations of student conduct
and/or driver interaction, driver skills and proper driving techniques.
11. Develop and maintain a database to
assist with for tracking complaints and actions taken in student discipline
matters.
12. Establish working relationships with
contractor’s staff and drivers to enhance the working relationship between
contractor and district.
13. Assist with development and oversight of bus routes
and schedules, bus stop selection criteria, bus route efficiencies.
14. Assist with development, selection and
implementation of special needs transportation accommodations.
12. May perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school
diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum three years’ experience with

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Montana Commercial
Drivers License with proper endorsement.
Certified in CPR and First Aid.
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals,
professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental
regulations. Ability to effectively
present information and respond to questions from groups of administrator,
managers, parents and/or guardians, students, staff and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,
commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra
and geometry.
REASONING
ABILITY:
Ability to
apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written
or oral instructions. Ability to deal
with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to develop effective
working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability
to install, trouble shoot and maintain district video/audio security systems. Ability to physically manage students and
equipment. Be able to observe unusual
student behavior and advise supervisor.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in oral and written
form. Ability to perform duties with
awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
