JOB TITLE:          MENTOR/TUTOR COORDINATOR

LOCATION:          1-8 BUILDINGS

SUPERVISOR:     ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION

 

JOB SUMMARY :

Mentor/Tutor Coordinator.  Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  serving as a liaison between home, school and community; developing and implementing the tutoring/mentoring initiative across grades 1-8, district wide; providing support to mentors, mentees, parents and staff as needed; and coordinating and ensuring effective implementation of program/initiative

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

1.       BA Degree in elementary or secondary education required

2.       MA Degree preferred, Education or Educational Leadership preferred

3.       K-8 Teaching Experience, preferred

4.       Background in child/adolescent psychology preferred.

5.       Above Average past performance evaluations

6.       Proven ability to meet the challenges of an urban-rural, multi-racial, and multi-ethnic school district.

7.       Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with staff and community

8.       Exceptionally strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

1.       Provide relevant student information to mentor/tutors, ensuring that all confidentiality and release of information guidelines are followed.

2.       Collaborate with Executive on loan to develop, implement and grow the tutor/mentor initiative across grades 1-8

3.       Systematically create 1-1 matches between mentors and all students in grades 1-8 throughout the district

4.       Coordinate and develop resources within and outside the school district for use by students, their families, and mentors.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

1.      Assist in generating community awareness of program/initiative and recruiting volunteers with BA degrees or higher

2.      Develop, promote and deliver training workshops for mentor/tutors, as well as district and building staff

3.      Oversee and assist in creating mentor/mentee matches through information gathering

4.      Support mentor and mentee and parents in ensuring the mentor visits take place weekly

5.       Host on-going monthly mentor support groups to ensure effective implementation, providing guidance to mentors

6.       Contribute to all program evaluation efforts; surveys, data gathering, data analysis, etc.

7.       Recognize role as a mandated reporter, and ensuring all mentors/tutors are aware of the law

8.       Serve as a liaison between the staff, mentor, mentee, parent and Executive-on-loan

9.       Plan and deliver other programmatic functions as required, such as special events (fundraisers, recognition/awards ceremonies, etc.), to support the program

10.   Develop community partners to offer free/discounts to various places throughout the community to mentor/mentees

11.   Communicate with various media outlets to share our stories/successes and to assist in recruiting volunteers

12.   Coordinate mentoring/tutoring logistics (i.e. when, where, how long, how often, etc. the mentoring will occur)

13.   Other duties as assigned, in compliance with Title funding requirements
