Nature and Scope of Job: Employee assists
Senior Systems Engineer (SSE) in implementing and maintaining a complete
enterprise-level distributed network operating system (NOS). Employee will have access to confidential
information during the execution of normal day-to-day work.
Education, Licenses, Certification or Formal Training:
·
At least a four year degree in
Computer Information Systems or equivalent combination of education and experience.
·
MCSE highly desired.
·
Valid Colorado driver’s license.
Qualifications: Excellent troubleshooting skills. Good working knowledge of data networking
principals and design of both Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks
(WAN). Expert knowledge of common
operating systems characteristics and hardware configurations. Good working knowledge of relational database
designs and structures. Ability to read
and understand hardware and software manuals.
Ability to independently research and solve hardware and software
problems using commonly available materials and troubleshooting practices. Ability to follow and understand oral and
written instructions. Ability to deal
tactfully with public and staff. Ability
to respond under pressure to immediate situations while maintaining courteous
and professional relationships with public and staff. Ability to perform work with a high degree of
accuracy, consistency, and thoroughness.
Ability to make decisions using good judgment and common sense. Ability to follow established safety
practices. Ability to work independently
and with others. Good math skills. Ability to respond to major server outages on
a 24 by 7 basis. Ability to perform all
functions of the position.
Essential Job Functions:

Drives various fleet vehicles
frequently.

Accomplishes duties without direct

Performs work as assigned in the OIT
Help Desk work order system.
·
Serves as escalation point in
problem solving chain for other employees of department.
·
Installs, tests, and maintains
distributed enterprise anti-virus systems for use on all servers and desktops.
·
Installs, tests, and maintains
distributed enterprise automated software update utilities and mechanisms for
use on all servers and desktops.
·
Installs, tests, and maintains
distributed enterprise domain naming systems (DNS) and works with outside
organizations to ensure the functionality of the same.
·
Installs, tests, and maintains
hardware and software for all application, electronic mail, file, File Transfer
Protocol (FTP), print, and web servers for the entire enterprise.
·
Installs, tests, and maintains
enterprise backup systems.
·
Implements disaster recovery
procedures for entire enterprise.
·
Maintains all user and computer
accounts for entire enterprise.
·
Implements, tests, and maintains all
user and computer account policies.
·
Evaluates and recommends hardware
and software purchases.
·
Monitors and logs the health and
status of all servers.
·
Assists SSE in maintaining database
of critical server information, including location, NOS version, serial number,
make, model, physical memory, physical storage space, etc.
·
Assists SSE in ensuring physical and
electronic security of all enterprise servers and data.
·
Researches and implements new
technologies to assist workforce in the execution of their duties.
·
Contacts various vendors and
suppliers for repair and maintenance of server hardware and software.
·
Assists in the development and
maintenance of departmental policy and procedural manuals and documentation for
technology related issues.
·
Responds to emergencies.
·
Installs, maintains, tests, and
repairs server hardware and software.
·
Provides user training for use of
NOS servers.
·
Uses positive verbal and non-verbal
skills at all times when working with district personnel and community members.
·
Performs other duties as assigned.
