Responsibilities:

  • Check and assist students from taxis or busses in the morning and check and assist them to taxis or busses when leaving school
  • In cooperation with and under supervision of teacher, provide input for assessments of each student to whom assigned
  • Assist teacher and support staff, when appropriate, in developing the goals and objectives that are to be considered by the IEPC in the areas of self-care skills, gross and fine motor development, cognitive skill development, communication skills, social and emotional development, reason and problem solving, pre-vocational skills and behavior management.
  • Prepare for and carry out daily educational activities related to goals- objectives in the individual education plan of each student
  • Keep data and record progress
  • Prepare instructional materials
  • Assist in carrying out behavior management plans which have been developed and agreed upon by the team responsible for the development and implementation of the plans
  • Assist teacher in the development of daily schedule
  • After demonstration and instruction by occupational and/or physical therapist, carry out gross and fine motor IEPC objectives that do not require direct therapy by the occupational and/or physical therapist
  • Keep necessary records (morning checks of students, injuries, health, seizures, etc)
  • Clean and/or sanitize tables, mats, equipment, training aides, toys, etc. daily
  • Participate in in-service training programs
  • Assist teachers in supporting students in the general education setting.
  • Supervise students while teachers are out of the room, at lunch, or attending meetings in the building.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by teacher or principal
  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers

 

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required; associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents with special needs.
  • Able to participate in physical management of students as need (training will be provided)

 

Working Conditions:
A-2; $12.13/hour; Full time; school year position
