POSITION TITLE: Head Coach
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
NATURE OF THE POSITION:
This is
a responsible position that requires working with students, faculty,
administrators and parents in the implementation of the sport program. The work is under the direction of the
Athletic Director and involves general overall responsibility for the total sport
program. The Head Coach must demonstrate
an ability to work cooperatively and enthusiastically with the entire school
community and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. The Head Coach will have a record of proven
success as a teacher and coach.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Experience or Training
Valid Type 03, 09 or 10
Illinois State Teaching Certificate or valid ASEP Certification
Official college transcripts of class work.
Three
(3) up-to-date letters of recommendation.
Successful
demonstration of quality sport coaching at the secondary level.
*Candidates must
also meet one of the following categories as mandated by the Illinois High
School Association.
(a) teaching or supervising classroom
activity at least two periods daily in the member school; or
(b) employed full-time in any elementary or junior high school in the legal
attendance area of the member high school; or
(c) an assistant teacher, resource aide, lay supervisor or other
paraprofessional who is employed at least half-time per day in the member
school; or
(d) a full time teacher in any elementary district, any of whose territory is a
part of the member high school's district; or
(e) teaching full time, within the provisions of the Illinois School Code, in a
member high school or in a vocational or special education cooperative in which
the member school participates; or
(f) a retired teacher from an IHSA member high school
Desired Experience or Training
Demonstrated
leadership ability in the teaching, coaching, and direction of a quality sport
program in a multicultural high school and/or unit district.
Ability
to effectively and enthusiastically articulate the total athletic program for
the Proviso Township High Schools with the school community, parents, and the
public.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directs and assumes general
responsibility for the total sport program.
Demonstrates supervisory
and organizational skills associated with the implementation of a quality
program.
Demonstrates cooperation,
friendliness and enthusiasm toward students, faculty, fellow coaches, and the
public sector.
Demonstrates strong public
relations skills.
Motivates fellow coaches
and student athletes by example.
Plans, coordinates,
supervises, and conducts a sport program based on the latest evidence of
knowledge and skill about the game.
Disseminates information to and instructs student athletes and fellow
coaches in the above.
Develops standards of
conduct and safety for all student athletes.
Adheres to these standards, instructs and supervises fellow coaches in
the practice of standards.
Promotes and adheres to
school and district policies and procedures.
Strict compliance with all
IHSA rules and regulations.
Works with the Athletic
Director in developing a competitive yearly game schedule.
Exercises and teaches
control and care of school-owned equipment.
Other duties and
responsibilities that may be assigned and/or administratively directed.
