TITLE: EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Have not less than a high school education or
general equivalency diploma; and
2. Meet necessary health and physical
qualifications.
3. Be highly qualified by taking the ParPro test
(offered by school system).
JOB GOAL
The Educational Assistant is responsible for
providing assistance to teachers in giving specialized academic
and physical training to students including those with
disabilities.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
The Educational Assistant reports to the
supervising teacher, building principal, and assistant
principal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Administers, scores, and records such
achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for
individual students;
2. Sets up, operates, and cares for
learning/development equipment used in the classroom for
instructional purposes;
3. Distributes and collects workbooks, papers,
and other materials for instruction;
4. Assists in supervising students during
emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, assigned lunchroom
periods, bus loading and unloading, and transitions
between rooms;
5. Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and
supervises testing and make-up work as assigned by the
teacher;
6. Works with individual students or small
groups of students as directed by the teacher, to reinforce
learning of material or skills;
7. Assumes responsibility for knowing and
following the safety rules and proper procedures associated
with the responsibilities of the job;
8. Arranges bulletin boards and assists in
assimilating materials for class displays;
9. Types and duplicates tests, worksheets, and
supplementary materials;
10. Attends to the personal needs of the
disabled student including helping student to walk to class,
loading and unloading buses, putting on prosthetic appliances,
eating, dressing and performing other physical activities as
their needs arise; and
11. Performs other duties as assigned by the
supervising teacher and/or principal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job requires lifting of objects that exceed
50 lbs., or the average weight of a child, if assigned to
elementary grades, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of
objects weighing up to 25 lbs or more. Other physical demands
that may be required are as follows:
