JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE:
LIBRARY MEDIA ASSISTANT
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.
Library Technical Assistant degree (LTA) or prior library
experience preferred
2.
Must meet No Child Left Behind (NCLB) education requirements
for student interaction
3.
Ability to perform specialized clerical tasks with limited
supervision and assume clerical responsibility for a major
segment of the library's operations.
4.
Ability to work effectively with students and staff members
5.
Demonstrates proficient use of English language in oral and
written forms
6.
Communicates effectively with students, staff, and
parents/guardians
7.
Ability to operate and maintain a variety of multimedia
equipment
8.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of basic skills in a variety
of computer programs
9.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks while
working with interruptions
10.
Ability to stoop, bend, reach and handle, as well as lifting
of loads of books and other materials (up to 25 pounds)

Library Information Specialist or Building
Principal
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist the Library Information Specialist in the
full utilization of services, materials, and resources offered
to the students and staff through the library media
center.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
1.
Assists in implementing programs and services offered by the
library media center.
2.
Helps maintain an orderly and functional room environment
conducive to learning.
3.
Operates the circulation desk (in accordance to established
procedures) to perform clerical library tasks including, but
not limited to:
a.
Using the automated on-line library system
b.
Maintaining circulation and overdue records
c.
Shelving and filing books and other library materials
d.
Processing, maintaining, repairing, and cleaning library
materials
4.
Assists in the
distribution, operation, and maintenance of multi-media
equipment.
5.
Maintains the
appropriate technology skills needed to assist students and
staff in the use of all technology resources available in the
library media center.
6.
Perform other
tasks and responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor
- Library Information Specialist or building Principal.
PHYSICAL CONTEXT OF
THE JOB:
This position requires
stooping, bending, reaching and handling, as well as the
lifting of books and other materials up to 25 pounds.
