QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • Eight years of directly related experience, including three years of supervisory or management experience in transportation operations
  • Knowledge and experience related to the department, process and development stages of students
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to school bus safety and operations
  • Knowledge of principles of pupil management and discipline
  • Ability to direct and manage operations of a large fleet of vehicles
  • Knowledge of energy management and vehicle repair and maintenance
  • Certification as Official from Texas Association of Pupil Transportation (TAPT) preferred

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS

  • Develop routes, monitor and evaluate the district's student transportation delivery system on a daily basis
  • Ensure transportation operations are supportive of the instructional goals and objectives of the district
  • Serve as main liaison with Dallas County School to facilitate and support student transportation for the district
  • Oversee the management of the interlocal agreement between the district and Dallas County Schools by monitoring all activities and ensuring compliance in behalf of the district
  • Maintain good working relationship with Dallas County Schools to support the student transportation issues for the district
  • Coordinate meetings with district officials and Dallas County Schools as necessary
  • Develop special program (i.e. Vanguard/Academy, summer programs, NCLB, etc.) routes from home to school for students within the district
  • Receive invoices for extra-curricular activities, record and disperse to each school and/or department within 48 hours for payment of Dallas County Schools
  • Prepare as necessary any parent private transportation reimbursement documentation for district reimbursement from Dallas County School through Texas Education Agency
  • Develop and implement staff development information for district staff (teachers, principals and administrative) as it relates to district student transportation
  • Attend parent conferences at school where students are involved in disciplinary problems while riding school buses
  • Attend community meetings related to district student transportation needs
  • Hold scheduled safety meetings with bus drivers covering basic school bus driving procedures
  • Manage a program of preventive maintenance to ensure the safe operations of all transportation vehicles
  • Ensure the timely filling of all transportation forms with proper agency
  • Analyze the condition of buses and make recommendations for the purchase of additional or replacement buses
  • Prepare a contingency plan for transporting students when breakdown occurs
  • Consult with government agencies to ensure compliance with state and federal procedures and mandates
  • Prepare and administer the annual budget for student transportation
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
