Job Title: Special Education
Paraprofessional
Will work with team
teachers on accommodation for students requiring
specialized services, meets regulary with special educaiton
team to insure
effectiveness of curriculum and
modifications
Essential Duties and Responsiblities:
1.
Participates and assists in the implementation
of educational activities
2.
Discusses concerns, problems and special
interests of students with teachers

Provides instruction related support services under the
direction of teachers

Participates and assists with the implementation of innovative
education activities

Assists in the implementation of in-services for other
staff
-
Consults with teachers regarding problems, concerns, and
special interests of individual students
-
Communicates with parents and guardians after consultation with
the teacher
Student Training and
Activities:
1.
Provides tutoring services to students under
the supervision of the classroom teacher
-
Accompanies students on field studies and community action
3.
Provides assistance to students in
understanding and completing classroom assignments
-
Assists in the supervision of students during lunchroom,
transition periods and playground activities
5.
Provides first level communication to parents
regarding student classroom problems, concerns and special
interests
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
1.
Maintain professional growth which includes
attendance at training and development programs.
2.
Monitor halls
3.
Collect attendance and make parent calls regarding
absent students
4.
Complete weekly requisition of student
attendance
5.
Enforce uniform
6.
Monitor detention
7.
Assist teachers with disciplinary issues
8.
Make parent phone calls regarding disciplinary
issues
9.
Assist the Assistant Principal with various duties
upon request

Experience/Training:
1.
One year of experience equivalent to a Teacher
Aide
2.
Must be certified as Paraprofessional by the
Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) within one month hire
date.
Physical Demands:
1.
Ability to stand, bend and stretch.
2.
Ability to travel and maneuver between site
locations
3.
Ability to lift at least 20 pounds.
Language Skills:
1.
Ability to read and write proficiently using
the English language.
2.
Ability to interact and speak effectively in
interpersonal situations and before groups of people.
