PRIMARY FUNCTION:   The individual selected for this position is responsible assisting the AIMS-MS Specialist/K-8 Attendance Officer with case management.   The Support position will provide clerical support for the AIMS program and work to strengthen the family/school/community connections by organizing monthly student attendance improvement acknowledgement awards and implement quarterly engaging incentive based educational activities for families involved in the program. Establish appointments and mail correspondence.   Data collection and other duties as assigned.

 

The AIMS-MS (Attendance Improvement Means Success-Middle School) Program is a grant funded program that works with middle school students identified as habitually truant or at-risk of being identified as habitually truant from school. Program elements include intensive case management, parent skills and asset building, mentoring/tutoring, incentive based educational activities and strengthening family connections between home and school.   This position is part-time, 25 hours a week; non-renewable Grant funded (10 month position 9/1/12-6/30/13) .  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   Candidates for this position must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.   Associate's degree preferred.   Also, at least one year of relevant work experience required and/or 2 years of human service experience working with at-risk children and families preferred.    Proof of Valid Wisconsin Driver's license and Proof of $100,000/$300,000 insurance liability limits required.

  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Technical:   Ability to use and manipulate various software packages (word processing, email, spreadsheet); effective problem solving and organizational skills; handle sensitive correspondence; strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task; communicate school policy and procedures; knowledge of current office procedures; ability to travel between schools.

 

Interpersonal: Strong customer service/advocacy focus, excellent interpersonal skills; strengths in the area of effectively communicating and interacting with families under stressful situations;   Social skills that engage children and families; independent worker , yet a team player; flexible scheduling, including evening work; positive, creative attitude, focusing on building family assets and developing creative incentives to encourage children to attend school regularly.
