  Description:

The English Learner Support teacher will provide supplemental services to English learners (ELs) within the basic school program following state and federal regulations.  This position is not administrative and requires the teacher to provide direct student services to English learners.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for individualized and small group instruction and provides supplemental support to meet the needs of each identified English learner;

 

Evaluates student’s growth in gaining proficiency in English;

 

Communicates with classroom teachers and develops individualized learning plans addressing the unique needs of ELs most at risk of not meeting grade level standards;

 

In conjunction with the classroom teacher, identifies and implements procedures to remedy deficits of ELs not meeting expected proficiency growth as outlined in the District’s Master Plan for English learners;

 

Provides additional academic support to reclassified English learners within the two year monitoring process;

 

Communicates ongoing progress of EL students served with the classroom teacher on a regular basis; works with the classroom teacher to adjust interventions as needed;

 

Participates in SSTs and IEPs of EL students, as needed;

 

Performs other direct EL student service duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Must hold appropriate California Teaching Credential and meet the NCLB highly qualified requirements; must possess an English Language Development authorization;

 

At least five years of successful teaching, preferably at more than one grade level;

 

Experience in successfully working with ELs utilizing differentiated instructional strategies and effective classroom management techniques;

 

Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable model. Better than average recommendations from professionals who have observed personal characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance. Must be able to establish good working relationships with other professionals.

 

Salary and Terms of Service:

This is a part-time position.  Salary according to teacher's placement on the Certificated Salary Schedule.  Work schedule to coincide with regular teacher's calendar.  Position to be renewed annually contingent upon availability of funds.
