JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
 
Incumbent is responsible for assisting the Associate Superintendent with duties and responsibilities of the office as required. 
  
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
·         Master’s Degree
 
·         Principal Certification
 
·         Minimum of Five Years Teaching Experience with Austin ISD 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Respond to parental concerns that follow the chain of command in a professional manner.
 
Maintain record of contacts with public.
 
Assist the Associate Superintendent in the implementation of the Principles of Learning through:

  • Assisting in training
  • Leading Learning Walks
  • Facilitating book studies
  • Refining district tools


Assist in the planning and implementation of professional development programs based on school priorities, certification requirements, administrator preference, and funds available using the support provided by Education Service Center, TEA, and area universities, when possible.
 
Support principals in problem solving and respond to requests for assistance in a variety of areas such as:

  • Improving Instruction
  • Implementing Curriculum
  • Designing Lessons
  • Behavior Management
  • Facilitating Communication with other areas in Central Office
  • Acting as Mediator
  • Assisting with Grant Writing  and Implementation
  • Helping to rethink staff and buget needs
  • Listening to concerns and offering solutions, when appropriate

Assist both the Associate Superintendent and principals in preparing budget requests and justifications.
 
Assist the Associate Superintendent in developing strong relationships between schools and the Austin business community; in particular business sponsorship of programs and other activities.
 
Assist with planning of principal meetings.
 
Record minutes for principal meetings.
 
Represent Associate Superintendent at assigned functions.
 
Collaborate with the other Assistants to the Associate Superintendent.
 
Assist Associate Superintendent and/or principals with resources, research, and instructional strategies.
 
Participate in staff development, conferences, and professional organizations to enhance curriculum expertise.
 
Facilitate and/or conduct second appraisals.
 
Assist campuses by substituting for administrators when necessary.
 
Conduct Area Teacher of the Year selections according to the District's procedures and timelines.
 
Assist in review of Campus Improvement Plans
 
Collaborate with the Department of Curriculum and School Improvement in preparing for and facilitating TEA visits.
 
Assist in mentoring of new principals and assistant principals.
 
Support campus implementation of crisis management plan when necessary.
 
Assist in the composition of Board agenda items.
 
Assist with principal selections process.
 
Work with Department of Curriculum and School Improvement to ensure quality instruction in area schools.
 
Serve on District committees as a staff resource.
 
Stay current on the laws, policies, and requlations affecting the schools.
 
Act as a resource for mandated state testing.
 
Coordinate area surveys and area requests for information from various sources.
 
Encourage teamwork, collaboration, and partnerships among schools to develop and accomplish common goals aligned with district priorities and strategies.
 
Maintain close working relationships with principals to ensure information exchange, coordination of efforts, and general support for the decision making process.

COMPENSATION: 
 
Salary Grade A5, 230 Days - $65,000 - $85,000
(The salary is based on experience and qualifications.)
