TEACHING POSITION:  Requires Alaska teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement (s) (for information visit:  http://www.eed.state.ak.us/TeacherCertification).  When appropriate, must be willing and able to test for the NCLB “highly qualified” standard(s).


Position Summary: The successful candidate will possess successful experience with differentiated instructional strategies in reading, writing and mathematics.  Applicants for this position must have extensive experience with a variety of effective instructional strategies in reading including direct instruction.  Knowledge of ongoing assessment and progress-monitoring of students is essential.  The successful candidate for this position will be able to work closely and collaborate with Principal, Literacy Coach, Instructional Support Team and colleagues on matters such as instructional strategies, ongoing assessment, curriculum and data analysis.  Candidate will be open to learning and implementing new instructional techniques.  Successful candidate will work to build strong relationships with families and staff necessary to meet the social, emotional and instructional needs of each student.  This position is a great opportunity for anyone who is a lifelong learner.
 
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in education.
  • Valid Alaska teaching certificate with elementary education endorsement, or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Federally highly-qualified or able to pass the test for the NCLB “highly qualified” standard(s).

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master's degree in education preferred.
  • Attendance at Literacy Institute and/or further training in the teaching of reading. 
  • Successful fifth grade teaching experience.
