QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
preferred
- Three to five years of experience in a related field such
as public relations, journalism, broadcasting, marketing,
promotions, and community relations
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with
minimal supervision
- Experience in working with multi-cultural, multi-ethnic
audiences
- Effective leadership, team-building and supervisory skills;
ability to meet deadlines; tact, diplomacy and flexibility
- Superior verbal communication and relationship skills with
strong customer-service orientation
- Experience in corporate or nonprofit environments skills in
written communication, oral presentation, and program planning
and organization
- Experience in working with the public and communicational
media in providing information and interpreting programs
- Knowledge of local media, schools, community issues and
governmental processes
- Ability to develop and implement an active district plan
for community, parent and student engagement
- Strong organizational, excellent speaking, public relations
and event management skills
- Ability to work on several projects concurrently and to
positively engage staff and community in efforts
BASIC FUNCTIONS
- Develop a strategic media plan to increase the amount of
positive news stories with measurable indicators
- Interface with other Communications Services departments in
coordinating a comprehensive strategy to communicate district
wide initiatives to all stakeholders, including district staff,
parents, students, the media and the general public
- Create collateral material using several forms of media
(print, broadcast and internet) to communicate districtwide
initiatives
- Develop administer and evaluate surveys or other
measurement tools to gauge communication efforts
- Coordinate publicity efforts for various district events
and activities
- Offer support other district departments and schools in the
promotion of events, awareness campaigns and recruitment
efforts
- Attend school board briefings and meetings, upon
request
- Serve as media spokesperson
- Write news releases, media advisories, public service
announcements, talking points, statements, letters to parents
and communication plans
- Respond to media requests (local and national); and arrange
media interviews and coverage of district
- Assist in working with media at district wide events,
crises and campus emergencies
- Advise departments/schools on working with the media
- Post (through e-mail, fax and internet) news releases,
PSAs, advisories and events and activities
- Coordinate special projects related to media efforts
- Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
