Primary Purpose:

Performs daily tasks to keep the PISD network functioning properly.  These duties include, but not limited to: monitoring network equipment and connectivity, designing and maintaining local and wide area, wireless, and Voice over IP networks architecture and equipment; providing user support.

Qualifications (Experience/ Education/Certification):

Technical Degree or equivalent (Bachelor's Preferred); must possess or obtain Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification, plus four years experience maintaining a Cisco based network environment.

Major Responsibilities:

§   Remains current on latest developments and standards in the Local Area Network (LAN)/WAN, wireless, and VoIP management field.

§   Identifies requirements and makes recommendations for improving PISD network capabilities and performance; determines network system requirements; plans and schedules system implementation and maintenance activities; determines operational, technical, and support requirements for the location, installation, operation, and maintenance of servers and network systems.  Installs, configures, and maintains the PISD network to include the coordination of third-party installation and maintenance activities; oversees, and coordinates use of the Wide Area Network (WAN); maintain day-to-day operations of the network.

§   Monitors and analyzes network usage and connectivity demands to include Internet bandwidth; provides recommendations for maintaining sufficient network capacity to meet on-going district needs.

§   Installs and configures Wireless Network; monitors wireless network for proper operation and takes corrective action as required.

§   Installs and configures Voice over IP (VoIP); monitors VoIP for proper operation and takes corrective action as required.

§   Provides user support in the use of applicable hardware, software, and utilities as needed.

§   Establishes and maintains regular written and in-person communication; develops and maintains technical documentation related to assigned functions and responsibilities.

§   Participates in long range planning; recruits, trains, evaluates and supervises network and VoIP personnel and makes sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal; manages, directs and assigns priorities and personnel to projects; plans and administers a budget; attends professional growth activities; performs other duties as assigned.

§   Conserve electricity as outlined in the districts energy management plan

Special Knowledge/Skills:

§   Knowledge of computer and networking technologies and configurations.

§   Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures.

§   Knowledge of Cisco IOS and Cisco Call Manager, routers, switches, and other network equipment.

§   Skill in Sniffer (network) analyzer and TCP/IP applications (PING, TELNET, TRACEROUTE).

§   Skill in recognizing, analyzing, and resolving network problems.

§   Skill in handling effectively and efficiently multiple tasks simultaneously.

§   Skill in working in collaborative team based environments.

§   Excellent customer service skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises Technology Network Specialist and Senior Communications Administrator.

Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Demands):

Prolonged use of computer; position regularly requires work outside the normal work week; frequent district wide travel; must maintain emotional control under stress; must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry at least 40 lbs independently and over 40 lbs with assistance.
