Job Summary
The Reading Specialist works
directly with the Teachers, including special education.
The Reading Specialist works collaboratively with the
Superintendent, Director of Teaching and Learning, and Building
Principals. The Reading Specialist will provide
leadership to teachers by modeling lessons, coaching teachers,
providing feedback and reflection opportunities, assisting with
the implementation of assessments, analyzing data, reporting
results, and making recommendations for program
modifications. The Reading Specialist is required to
participate in all Reading First, ENI Target Teach workshops,
and training provided by the Illinois State Board of Education,
and Illinois South Cook County Region 4.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold the
appropriate State of Illinois Teaching Certificate

24 hours in the Reading content
area or have a Master's Degree in Reading.
(preferred)

Experienced teacher at the
elementary grades.

Knowledgeable about scientifically
based reading research related to the five essential components
of early reading.

Know the characteristics of adult
learners when explaining theory-based instructional practices
to teachers.

Be able to demonstrate
theory-based instructional practices in their daily reading
instruction.

Be able to guide and support
teachers in the school as they organize reading instruction
activities.
.
Possess skills in one-to-one
coaching as well as group facilitation skills.

Understand the varieties of
reading assessments and how to interpret the results of each
assessment.

Link data analysis of reading
assessment to specific instructional practices.

Have excellent time management
skills.
Working Conditions
The work year for this position is
180 days plus an addition two weeks before the school year
begins and two weeks after the school year ends. Salary
in accordance with the teacher salary schedule. The district
