Requirements:
CT Certification in Administration and Supervision (092)
Five years of successful teaching experience
Skilled in use of technology
Skilled in data analysis

Service Orientation
The Assistant Principal must have a genuine interest in serving the school community of students, faculty, and parents. He/she must be sincerely committed to the welfare of the school community as well as capable of the self-reflection required for individual growth and school leadership. He/she must be able to promote a school culture featuring collaboration and professionalism in the service of student learning and continuous improvement.
Professionally Knowledgeable, especially in Instruction, Data Interpretation and Conflict Resolution
He/she must be a master teacher, well versed in effective instructional practices as well as in collecting and interpreting evidence of student performance and program needs. The Assistant Principal must be an effective communicator and empathic listener. He/she must be able to understand multiple perspectives and broker common understandings. He/she must be able to foster healthy relationships between school and home through problem-solving that emphasizes common interests.
Supervision
The Assistant Principal must implement and follow the district-wide personnel evaluation program, demonstrating objectivity and sound judgment in personnel evaluation. He/she must write clear and insightful lesson appraisals and annual appraisal reports that include a mix of commendations and recommendations. The Assistant Principal will assist with recruitment and selection of all staff positions.
Transparent Communicator
The Assistant Principal must be open and clear in speaking with others, whether in formal or in informal settings. He/she must be an effective writer, capable of adjusting her communication to suit her audience.
Collegial Team Member
The Assistant Principal must be able to function as a member of district administrative team through conduct that is supportive of colleagues and noteworthy for its integrity and honesty.
Responsible and Organized
The Assistant Principal must be able to effectively manage building programs and operations. He/she must be able to assume all of the duties of the principal as might be necessary.
Duty of Care and Sense of Humor
The Assistant Principal must enjoy children and understand his/her duty of care for their wellbeing. A sense of humor is essential.
