Community Relations
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in a
related field such as public relations, marketing, promotions,
community relations and parent involvement, volunteer programs
or fund development
preferred
- Three years of experience in a related field
- Effective leadership, team-building and supervisory skills;
ability to meet deadlines and motivate/support volunteers and
staff; tact, diplomacy and flexibility
- Superior verbal communication and relationship skills with
strong customer-service orientation
- Experience in corporate or nonprofit environments
- Skills in written communication, oral presentation, and
program planning
- Experience in working with the public and communicational
media in providing information and interpreting programs
- Knowledge of local media, schools, community issues and
governmental processes
- Ability to develop and implement an active district plan
for community, parent and student engagement
- Strong organizational, excellent speaking, public relations
and event management skills
- Ability to work on several projects concurrently and to
positively engage staff and community in efforts
- Commitment to the philosophy of a multi-cultural,
multi-ethnic environment
- Experience working with diverse populations
BASIC FUNCTIONS
- Assist Community Relations director in developing a
strategic community relations plan for volunteer and donation
management for Dallas ISD
- Develop and execute strategies to enhance and promote the
district's volunteer program in the schools and in the
community by developing outreach initiatives (activities and
events) at the district and school level
- Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer
opportunities within the organization
- Survey staff regularly to assess needs for volunteer
assistance
- Maintain volunteer service descriptions for each volunteer
assignment
- Ensure volunteers are staffed to support the various areas
of operations, to include visitor service areas, exhibits and
education, special events, development, and
marketing/communications
- Recommend the most efficient use of volunteers, appropriate
volunteer/supervisory mix, and future workforce needs to
support volunteer program operations
- Conduct and/or arrange for volunteer orientation and
training
- Develop and manage volunteer policies, procedures, and
standards of volunteer service
- Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs
and special events
- Evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure
effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as
appropriate
- Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical
and activity reports on volunteer participation
- Recruit, interview and place applicants for volunteer
work
- Host and attend recruiting events within the community to
attract qualified candidates
- Work with external Communications and professional
associations to publicize opportunities for volunteers
- Develop and maintain relationships with other volunteer
organizations within the area
- Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers
- Act as a single point of contact for communications
- Confer with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote
cooperation and interest
- Manages all tasks related to the volunteer process
(policies, procedures, database tracking, volunteer hours,
applications, background checks, notifications)
- Partner and collaborate with local stakeholders across all
segments of the community to recruit and develop effective
volunteers
- Manage and mentor district/school volunteers coordinators
in the development and implementation of district engagement
plans and help them address obstacles to successful execution
of the volunteer program at their school
- Monitor and report Community Relations progress towards
stated goals and objectives as well as department-wide goals
and objectives
- Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned

guidelines.
