QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred
  • Three years of experience in a related field such as public relations, marketing, promotions, community relations and parent involvement, volunteer programs or fund development
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience in working in with multi-cultural, multi-ethnic audiences
  • Skills in written communication, oral presentation, and program planning
  • Effective leadership, team-building and supervisory skills; ability to meet deadlines; tact, diplomacy and flexibility
  • Superior verbal communication and relationship skills with strong customer-service orientation
  • Experience in corporate or nonprofit environments
  • Skills in written communication, oral presentation, and program planning
  • Experience in working with the public and communicational media in providing information and interpreting programs
  • Knowledge of local media, schools, community issues and governmental processes
  • Ability to develop and implement an active district plan for community, parent and student engagement
  • Strong organizational, excellent speaking, public relations and event management skills
  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently and to positively engage staff and community in efforts

BASIC FUNCTIONS

  • Assist the Community Relations director in developing a strategic community relations plan with local business and nonprofit groups of Dallas ISD to accomplish the following: build relationships with key community groups (leverage points) to work in reinforcing ways to support the district's marketing/communication efforts; create message congruence with community groups by working systemically with external communication agents; research, filter and manage community issues; develop parent attitudes and behavior regarding the importance of education, attendance and academic privilege through engagement strategies
  • Work cooperatively with administrators, staff, schools and community in planning and developing information programs and/or task forces as needed for the effective communications and community relations needs of the district
  • Seek purposeful connections with business and nonprofit organizations; build strategic alliances with key constituency groups whose work and missions are aligned with the district's community relations priorities
  • Advise Community Relations director on possible business and nonprofit partnerships and collaborations on special projects
  • Coordinate special projects of the district such as community initiatives and special communications projects
  • Assist in the planning and communication of the periodic polling of public opinion regarding management issues
  • Develop and build strategic relationships with organizations and community leaders and recruit district stakeholders
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
