About
Southeast Island School District
Southeast Island School District is seeking applicants for a 0.5 FTE secondary teacher/grantwriter/greehouse program manager. This job will focus on Southeast Island School District’s greenhouse, gardening, and orchard efforts. Selected applicant must hold a valid Alaska Teaching Certificate; certification in secondary subject(s) preferred. Prefer experience in the following areas: grant writing (gardening); horticulture; business; entrepreneurial skills. Selected applicant may be based in any SISD community on the Prince of Wales Island road system; workday will start at site designated. Applicants must meet the NCLB "highly qualified" requirements, and meet the requirements for positions partially or fully funded by NCLB Title grants. "Highly qualified" status in multiple content areas preferred. Selected applicants may be required to become "highly qualified" in specific content areas within three (3) years. Teacher housing may be available; excellent health benefits and a housing stipend are included.
Our schools are located in small, remote towns on Prince of Wales Island, Kosciusko Island, and Baranof Island, deep in Southeast Alaska with excellent outdoor opportunities. Families within our communities are supportive, with students who appreciate your efforts. We have extensive technological support for students. Sites have access to kayaks, bikes and a competitive archery program. We are now adding a greenhouse program, and are looking for the individual who can quickly build a successful program with our students. Our students are very successful and we wish to see them active and engaged in their learning.
