This position is accountable for establishing a safe and stable
school climate and culture by collaborating with administrators, teachers,
parents, and volunteers to ensure that all students are successful in the
academically rigorous setting. The Dean will think critically about ways to
solve disciplinary issues, including academic and non-academic issues, in order
to ensure that students are getting the support they need to maintain high
levels of performance. In addition, the Dean will build relationships with all
students and families to help create a positive and supportive community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following identifies the primary and essential functions
of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.
1.
Participates in the
development of school procedures designed to affect positive school behavior;
2.
Participates in any crisis
intervention;
3.
Communicates with
students, parents, staff, and administration relating to student behaviors, attendance,
truancies, and tardiness;
4.
Assists in general
preventative programs;
5.
Participates in workshops
and/or training that address improving school climate, positive behavior
strategies, diversity, safe school, etc.;
6. Assists
with morning and after school student supervision;
7.
Implements the student
attendance policy which includes monitoring student compliance with building
and District attendance policies; initiating appropriate communications when
attendance policy violations occur; maintaining disciplinary records for
attendance policy violations; implementing truancy procedures when appropriate;
representing the District during truancy proceedings; and assisting staff in
addressing student attendance problems;

Implements Student Code of
Conduct which includes monitoring student compliance with the established Code;
maintaining records of disciplinary actions administered, including electronic
records; initiating appropriate communications with students,
parents/guardians, and other staff; preparing and submitting reports regarding
disciplinary actions imposed; and representing the District in any proceedings
regarding student discipline (court proceedings, expulsion hearings, etc.);

Acts as the Principal’s
designee during Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) meetings which includes
assisting in the implementation of IEPs; assisting in the development,
implementation, and monitoring of individual learning plans for at-risk
students; assisting in scheduling, communication, set-up, and implementation of
parent-teacher conferences, back-to-school orientation and open house events;
and assisting in the direction of and/or serving on the school improvement team
and other building committees as assigned;
10. Assists in coordinating the activities program which includes
preparing an annual schedule for all middle school activities; interviewing and
selecting coaches and advisors for activities; monitoring and assessing the
performance of coaches and advisors; scheduling events and facilities
transportation necessary for events; securing officials for all games and/or
meets; preparing information for students and parents/guardians regarding
available programs and participation guidelines/requirements; preparing and
submitting requisitions for activities program equipment; maintaining records
related to eligibility verification, participation consent, athletic physicals,
payment of activity fees, etc.; monitoring and maintaining compliance with
Illinois athletic and league rules and regulations; conducting annual reviews
and evaluations of middle school activity programs; preparing and submitting an
annual budget for middle school activity programs; and submitting appropriate
documentation for the payment of officials, game workers, coaches, advisors,
etc.;
11. Maintains accurate records
of student disciplinary files, parent contacts concerning student behavior, and
other programs;
12. Maintains security and confidentially of files, records, and
other items relating to students and staff;
13. Assists in keeping the staff and administration aware of all
behavioral incidents;
14. Provides staff and administration with information concerning
student conflict and disciplinary cases;
15. Ensures compliance with ADA, IDEA and state mandates
regarding student and parent due process;
16. Provides for the safety and security of all students;
17. Follows universal precautions in accordance with OSHA
standards Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by administration;
18. Develops,
adapts and implements curriculum and lesson plans and aligns curriculum with
academic standards;
19. Provides
for the management of student behavior, including implementing disciplinary
procedures.
20. Assists
with the development of individualized intervention plans; writing and
implementing conditional procedures; and modeling specific strategies for other
instructional staff;
21. Works with Individualized Educational
Plan (IEP) teams in the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEP);
providing for IEP management and reevaluation; assisting with goal writing in
accordance with regulations and procedures; and setting up and participating in
IEP conferences;
22. Serves
as a liaison to case managers with regard to transition planning and plans at
the Middle School and High School levels;
23. Develops or utilizes assessment tools
and progress reports, including the Illinois Interactive report cards;
24. Develops
data collection and data management systems; entering data into proprietary and
other computer databases; analyzing data, identifying student needs, and
recommending quarterly classes based upon individual student needs;
25. Develops
positive and trusting relationships with students; counseling students and
reviewing transition activities with students; and providing job coaching for
students regarding their community job placement activities;
26. Communicates
and provides consultation with team members, parents and guardians, the Special
Education District of Lake County (SEDOL), and other outside agencies, regarding
students, their interventions, medications, and programmatic needs;
27. Provides for the safety of students
including extreme weather, transportation, and unknown personnel; supervising students
in building and on school grounds in areas other than the classroom, such as
playgrounds, and as students board and disembark from school buses;
28. Ensures
that teams are utilizing concepts of least restrictive environment and best
practices with students;
29. Attends
various meetings, such as staff, building, parent, team and case management;
30. Participates
in staff development activities;
31. Facilitates
meetings as outlined in the truancy alternative and optional education program
(TAOEP) grant;
32. Conducts
individual, family, and group sessions with students participating in the
TAOEP;
33. Develops
individual service plans for each student participating in the TAOEP;
34. May
provide in-service training to other staff;
35. May
orders supplies and materials related to curriculum and instruction;
36. Performs
related duties as required
