Director of Communications and Public
Relations
Salary (commensurate with experience)
12 Month Position
Description:
Assist the superintendent substantially and effectively in the
task of providing leadership in developing, achieving, and
maintaining the best possible district marketing and
communications programs and services supporting K-12 educational
programs and student achievement.
Reports To:
Superintendent of Schools
Qualifications
:
·
Documented evidence of successful leadership of a
communications program
·
Bachelor's degree with emphasis in communication
services, master's degree preferred
·
Six to eight years of professional experience in
marketing and communications or public
relations
Essential Job Functions
include the following:
·
Work closely with the Superintendent of Schools and
other staff members to plan, develop
and execute effective internal and external marketing and
communications strategies that
are consistent with the goals and objectives of the District
·
Attend Board of Education meetings and prepare
reports for the Board as deemed
appropriate
·
Be an ambassador and liaison for the School District
with social, professional, civic,
governmental, volunteer and other community agencies and groups
having interest in the
District
·
Coordinate the production of District communication
reports and documents
·
Work with professional agencies and volunteer groups
to conduct regular internal and
external opinion research and use the results to guide the
marketing communications
effort
·
Provide leadership and supervision of informational
services between the District and the
media
·
Maximize the use of marketing and communications
channels and techniques in
effectively growing and maintaining relationships with the
community served by the
Mehlville School District
·
Serve as principal editor of District
publications
·
Advise the Superintendent, Board of Education and
other District officials regarding
effective marketing and communications techniques and
procedures, and general matters
of public relations
·
Participate as a member of the Central Office Team
(District Cabinet)
·
Advise the Superintendent and Board of Education
regarding current policies in the
marketing and communications services area
·
Develop budgets, approve and monitor expenditures
and perform various other
administrative tasks on behalf of the Communications
Department
·
Create and keep current a District Crisis
Communication Plan
·
Provide overall leadership and management of the
Communications Department
·
Plan and coordinate the District's informational
program for ballot initiatives. Supervise all
facets of the informational effort
·
Draft correspondence, talking points, speeches,
scripts, resolutions and other documents
to be used in the District's marketing and communications
effort
·
Serve on or act as liaison to appropriate District
committees and projects having potential
marketing and communications implications.
·
Serve as official District spokesperson and
supervise positive media relations efforts
·
Plan and implement an effective program to award and
recognize students, staff and
community members for unique individual achievements and
significant contributions to
the progress and development of the District
·
Continually review and make recommendations to
improve the overall image and
marketing of the District
·
Custodian of District Records
·
Perform other related duties as assigned by the
Superintendent of Schools
