Job Description
TITLE: Cafeteria Worker
CLASSIFICATION:
Child Nutrition Services - Level 2
REPORTS TO:
Cafeteria Manager of Base
Kitchen and Principal
GENERAL
SUMMARY: Performs
a variety of duties in the preparation and service of meals to
students,
staff and visitors as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent
and the ability to pass the USD 475 math
test.
Experience with food
service a plus
Successful completion of
the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) Food
Safety Basics class
within 6 months of hire date.

The employee performing the duties of this
position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and
reach. The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move,
or carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the
demands of several different people. The employee is responsible for the work output
of others. The employee occasionally works extended hours. Vision abilities required by this job include
close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust
focus.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Practice good personal hygiene and safety
procedures.
2. Serve food according to meal schedules,
departmental policies, and procedures.
3. Practice and promote portion control
4. Operates and/or utilizes various appliances
and equipment such as ovens, dish washer, etc. as needed and according to
prescribed safety standards.
5. Supervise storage and handling of food items
and supplies. Maintain a clean and organized storage area. Sees that items are returned to base kitchen
as needed or requested.
6. May need to assist in the preparation of meal
portions prior to serving.
7. Serves students and staff from the
cafeteria counter; keeps dispensing and related equipment full and operating
for service as required.
8. Performs duties in compliance with safety and
health standards.
9. Maintains the cleanliness of the kitchen and
cafeteria areas; washes pans; clears counters, cleans fridge, coolers, and
storage areas; cleans kitchen appliances.
10. Interacts with immediate supervisor,
students, teachers, school staff and administration.
11. Follow established procedures to meet high
standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.
12. Correct unsafe conditions in
work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor
immediately.
13. Maintain daily food preparation records and
send back to base kitchen as needed.
Also maintain temperature logs and kitchen inspection reports for HAACP
procedures and keep filed on site.
14. Performs other related duties as assigned or
requested.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
?? Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions
? ?Physical
ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, push food carts, bend, and reach, as well
as stand
for
extended periods, 4 hours at a time possibly.
? English proficiency to be able to read,
understand, and communicate with coworkers and cafeteria manager.
? Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations
???Knowledge
and practice of health and safety standards.
???Ability
to safely operate and clean commercial can openers, and food warmers.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The
working environment is in the cafeteria kitchen and dining room that includes
exposure
to
noise and vibrations from kitchen equipment and students in the cafeteria,
fumes and odors from grease traps, and heat from stoves and ovens.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 months
SALARY RANGE:
$8.40 per hour
EVALUATION FREQUENCY:
Job performance will be evaluated a minimum of 1 time per year.
