Duties & Responsibilities: (Essential Functions of Position, Major Responsibilities, Summary of Key Duties, Special Assignments, Relationships)
· Teaching Language Arts
· Facilitate the implementation and actualization of the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan
· Work together with the 4<SUP>th</SUP> grade team to deliver instruction in an integrated, departmentalized fashion in Language Arts
· Create a sense of community within your classroom where all learners are respected and encouraged to reach their full potential
· Help students set academic and behavioral goals and assist them in monitoring their progress
· Use Differentiated Instruction in all areas of the curriculum to help meet the needs of all of your students
· Use both formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and set academic goals for improvement and acceleration
· Incorporate the use of technology into your instruction in Language Arts
· Use research-based strategies such as Read-alouds, Think-alouds, Graphic Organizers and QAR to deliver all aspects of the curriculum
· Attend weekly Data Driven Decision Making meetings with grade-level team members to review curriculum, plan for instruction and monitor student achievement data
· Implement all Learning Cycles as determined by 4<SUP>th</SUP> grade team through the DDDM process with fidelity and integrity
· Teach and monitor achievement of a daily reading intervention group
· Give input for and attend all IEP meetings of students in your classroom
· Complete RTI plans for any students needing Tier II or Tier III learning interventions
· Team teach with the special education teacher when necessary
· Participate in District and building-wide staff development activities and complete all assignments associated with the areas of study
· Organize your classroom to create a neat and appropriate climate for learning
· Incorporate the Life Skills, Boys Town Social Skills, Olweus Anti-bullying steps and Second Step strategies into your classroom
· Communicate with and involve families as needed to support student achievement
· Participate in peer coaching
· Provide on-going instruction and practice for students in building-wide procedures
· Assist with all other duties as assigned by the principal
Physical Requirements of Position: (HBV Yes No)
· Must be able to lift/push/pull 50 lbs.
Special Qualification Desired: (Personal Qualities, Education, Skills Needed, Experience, Etc.)
· Knowledge of best practices in instruction, particularly in language arts and math
· Must value diversity of students and reflect this in teaching and disciplinary strategies, which emphasize high expectations for student performance
· Knowledge and strategies for working with students with ADD/ADHD
Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students and their families to insure that each child reaches his/her full potential.
