Educational Paraprofessional / Headway Academy

Hourly Range: $12.15 - $21.18 DOE 
Start Date: August 21, 2012

Work Week: 20 Hours per week
 
DESCRIPTION:
Intermediate District 287 is seeking qualified candidates for an Educational Assistant position for the Care and Treatment program located at Headway Academy. This class is accountable for assisting licensed staff with providing instruction and other educational supports to students. 

The successful candidate will have:

Education: 
High School Diploma or a general education development (GED) certificate.
 
General Experience: 
Two (2) years of full-time employment or equivalent working with individuals in an environment that provides broad familiarity with and understanding of the physical and emotional behaviors and challenges of children with exceptional needs. 
Preferred Experience: Previous experience promoting successful outcomes for students in the following areas: (1) achieving high literacy levels; (2) using innovative tutoring strategies and; (3) integrating technology into classroom learning.

Substitution Allowed for the General Experience: 
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
OR
the successful completion of the ETS Parapro Assessment prior to the date of hire.
AND
In addition to the above substitutions, individuals are required to have some experience, either voluntary or paid, working with individuals in an environment that provides broad familiarity with and understanding of the physical and emotional behaviors and challenges of individuals with exceptional needs (this experience must be described on the application).

Also prefer experience working with youth in a treatment, alternative or special education setting.

Incumbents in this class will be required to possess a valid Motor Vehicle Class D Operator License.
