Position Summary:
The New Teacher Mentor position will be staffed by a retired Fulton County Teacher and is responsible for supporting 3 induction teachers throughout the course of the school year to assist them in developing knowledge and skills related to improving student achievement. This position is grant funded and thereby staffed year-to-year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meets with each teacher once a week
- Builds rapport and a trusting relationship with each teacher
- Models best practices related to instruction including differentiation, high expectations, and assessment for learning)
- Fosters collaboration through weekly conversations related to planning and instruction
- Observes teachers for the purpose of planning and growth of practice with a focus on reflection
- Demonstrates effective use of data analysis related to implementation and assessment
- Performs other duties related to the mentor position as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must demonstrate knowledge of current best practices related to instruction and assessment
- Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to listen, observe, and provide support which results in the best possible work environment
- Must be open to new ideas and expectations
- Ability to engage in conversations that lead to next steps using a coaching approach
- Proven communication and instructional strategies
- Demonstrated classroom management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with students, parents, administrators and staff
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience at the appropriate level (Elementary, Middle, or High School required)
Certification:
- Must hold or be eligible to hold Georgia certification in applicable field; Must complete on-line Common Core “classes”

Salary Range
- Salary placement with Fulton County Schools is non-negotiable. This is a Part-Time position and work schedule is determined by Department. The position is paid a flat rate honorarium ($3,400 paid in 2 payments of $1,700 at the end of each semester)
