Math Curriculum Specialist
The Math
Curriculum Specialist will be directly responsible to the
Director of Secondary Education
for all matters pertaining to the operation of the school plan,
in-building administrative and personnel procedures, and general
or district-wide policies as well as for all issues pertaining to
curriculum, instructional methods, assessment and
materials.

Responsibilities:
Related to Curricular
Program
: (1) Research best practice strategies and supplemental
resources that support daily instruction aligned to Illinois
Assessment Framework and College Readiness standards; (2) Monitor
program implementation, ensure program assessment tools are in
place and that data is made available and utilized for
instructional decision making and support school improvement
efforts; and (3) Provide literacy expertise in the planning,
implementation, review and revision process of SIP Action Plans
in assigned content areas for assigned school and grade
levels.
Related to Professional
Development
: (1) Provide in-service training and follow-up to assist
classroom teachers in the use of instructional strategies; (2)
Participate in district-level meetings and assist in coordination
of district-level in-service offerings to support school reform
programs; (3) Maintain a collection of professional learning
resources related to assigned content areas.
Related to Communication
Duties
: (1) Interpret both NCLB/ARRA reform and instructional program
for staff, parents and members of the community; (2) Facilitate
articulation between school/district regarding content scope and
sequence between high school and middle school levels; and (3)
Publicize academic progress made within school and at district
level for instructional program(s) being supported.
General
Responsibilities
: (1) Serve as the subject area specialist assigned to specific
high school mathematics, to oversee implementation of specific
Board approved math curriculum and reform initiatives identified
for grades 6-12, working with teachers and administrators to
improve daily instruction; (2) Facilitate curricular program/math
reform initiatives working with a variety of audiences in the
planning, implementation, and evaluation/revision of curricular
program to support school improvement reforms; (3) Communicate
with various audiences: teachers, parents and community
members regarding assigned instructional program progress and
build partnerships to support daily instruction for mathematics
initiatives; and (4) Perform such other professional duties as
may be assigned by the Director of Secondary Education.
Qualifications:
Must have a Master's Degree in Reading or a Master's
Degree in Education and endorsements in secondary mathematics
area. Minimum of five years of successful teaching
experience (including student teaching and internship) as well as
documented experience leading professional development activities
preferred.
