Social studies/language arts teacher for
basic skills lab - GED and ALC
Adult Academic Program (Adult Basic
Education program), Winnetka Learning Center (Sandburg Learning
Center after January 1, 2013)
13 hours per week, Tuesday and Thursday, 2 -
9 pm (instructional time: 4:30-8:30 p.m.)

RESPONSIBILITIES
·
Prepares and implements individualized and
group social studies and language arts instruction including high
school credits for adults with skill levels below grade 12 and
alternative high school youth
·
Provides group and individual instruction to
prepare adults for the GED and for college placement tests
·
Conducts testing and completes necessary
reports
·
Directs daily activities of assigned support
staff
·
Coordinates with co-teacher who prepares and
implements the Math/Science instruction
·
Builds rapport between staff and
learners
·
Implements program initiatives as requested,
such as Managed Enrollment
·
Keeps current with ABE research and
initiatives including Transition to Work/Postsecondary,
distance learning, etc.
·
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
·
Must have current Minnesota secondary teaching
license. Social studies and/or language arts/reading
preferred.
·
Successful teaching experience, preferably
with adults
·
Demonstrates good oral and written
communications skills
·
Has flexibility and creativity to teach a
continually changing student population
·
Experience and love of working with people of
different racial, ethnic, and sociological backgrounds
·
Demonstrated knowledge of how to incorporate
educational technology into instruction. Comfort with technology
such as computers and, preferably, Smartboards
·
Project STAR reading training
preferred.
