Minimum Qualifications
and Credentials Required:
1.
Educational Requirements
: High school diploma or equivalent.
2.
Essential Functions
: Safely and competently operate a school bus for the
purpose of transporting Avon Community Schools students to and
from school and school activities.
3.
Possess Skills and Knowledge
: Demonstrate adequate skill in driving a school bus and
have knowledge of traffic laws.
4.
Experience
: None required, but must receive training to develop the
necessary driving skill.
5.
Certification
: Must hold a minimum of a Class B Commercial Drivers
License and an Indiana State School Bus Committee Standard
Certificate (yellow card). Must have passenger, school
bus, and airbrake endorsements.
6.
Other
:
5.1 Minimum age of
twenty-one.
5.2 A person of good
moral character.
5.3
A person who does not use intoxicating liquor
during school hours, or to excess at any other time, and who
is not addicted to the use of narcotic drugs.
5.4
The governing body of any
school corporation may, at any time, require any school bus
driver operating a school bus for its school corporation to
submit to a physical examination by a licensed physician
selected by the school corporation (I.C. 20-9.1-3-1).
5.5
The driver shall attend
the annual safety meeting held by the Indiana State Police and
the Division of School Safety. The penalty for not
attending shall be the loss of a day's pay for each day
absent.
5.6
Must be willing and able
to drive an 84 passenger transit style bus.
5.7
All drivers must pass a
physical standards test given in conjuction with the renewal of
their DOT physical.
