ACE Technical Charter High School (ACE Tech) serves
approximately 500 students from Chicago's Washington Park, Back
of the Yards, Englewood and surrounding south side
neighborhoods. ACE Tech was founded in 2004 to increase the
number of urban, low-income, minority and female youth who enter
the architecture, construction, and engineering professions.
While many students are interested in these professions, ACE Tech
caters to students with a wide variety of interests and
aspirations. The student body demographic is 66% Black and 28%
Hispanic. 95% of students are low income and 18% receive
specialized services. ACE Tech's mission is to provide for
our students the highest levels of instruction and academic
achievement combined with exemplary character development that
will prepare them for postsecondary and apprenticeship education
and sustained lifelong success.
ACE Technical Charter High School is seeking a licensed
practical nurse to serve as a clinician in our Special
Education Department. This position requires a candidate
deeply committed to educational equity and the empowerment of
young people.
Purpose or Summary Statement of Primary Duties and
Responsibilities of Position
The Licensed Practical
Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing services to medically
fragile students and other duties as assigned under the
supervision of a licensed registered nurse.
Duties are to be performed in
accordance with the standards of professional school nurse
practice, district/state, board of education policies and
procedures and the State of Illinois Nurse Practice
Act
.
Principal
Accountabilities
The LPN provides
direct health services to students according to their IEP/504
plans.
The LPN monitors and
provides appropriate care to medically fragile students to
and from school and throughout the school day.
The LPN maintains safe
and healthy environment for all students.
The LPN maintains
health records in accordance to the Chicago Public Schools
records policy.
The LPN records
progress and maintenance of care to assigned students and
submit this data electronically daily.
The LPN works
cooperatively with all school personnel.
The LPN performs other
duties as assigned by the certified school nurse, health
service nurse assigned to the school building and/or the
nurse manager.
Qualifications for Job:
All qualified
applicants must be graduates from an accredited school of
practical nursing.
Must possess a current
State of Illinois Licensed Practical Nurse License,
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate and a
pharmacology certificate.
Applicants' Skills and
Abilities:
The potential
applicant must possess thorough knowledge of the principles
of licensed practical nursing, knowledge of medical
terminology and use of basic medical equipment.
Excellent clinical skills and
the ability to work with school-age children.
Good verbal, written, and computer, and communication
skills are a must. Traveling between schools during the
school day may be required.
Experience and Education
Required:
The Chicago Public
Schools is seeking all qualified individuals with 3 years of
pediatric experience and excellent clinical skills.
The applicant should have
experience working with students with culturally diverse
backgrounds. The applicant must be a graduate of an
accredited school of practical nursing and possess a valid
pharmacology certificate.
