General Custodian I

Work Schedule: 260 days; 8 hr/day
Nature and Scope of Job: This position consists of manual work related to the
custodial care and security of buildings and grounds in the District. The General Custodian
I employee works under the general supervision of the Building Manager or
Assistant Building Manager/General Custodian II. Work requires the application of proper
cleaning methods and the proper use of approved materials and equipment in the
cleaning and care of the buildings and grounds, as established by the Building
Manager. The approximate work schedule
is 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Education, Licenses, Certification or Formal
Training:
· High school diploma or
GED equivalent preferred.
· Valid Colorado driver’s
license.
· Or any other combination
of related education, experience, and training.
·
CPR, First Aid
Certificate preferred.
Qualifications: Ability to follow and understand
oral and written instructions. Ability to effectively relate in a positive
manner with staff, students and the public. Ability to respond under pressure
to immediate situations while maintaining courteous and professional
relationships with staff and the public. Ability to demonstrate a positive,
productive, and professional attitude at all times. Ability to perform work
with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to make decisions by using good
judgment and common sense. Ability to follow and direct others to follow
established safety practices. Ability to work independently and with others. Some
mathematical skills. Ability to perform all functions of the position.
Essential Job Functions:
· Uses
positive verbal and non-verbal skills when working with district personnel and
community members at all times.
- Performs
work according to printed information on the Custodial Department work
order system when required.
- Directs
the activities of temporary employees.
- Responds
to emergencies.
- Operates
cleaning equipment as needed.
- Cleans
rest rooms; vacuums, sweeps, mops, waxes and buffs floors using necessary
equipment to perform tasks.
- Cleans
chalk boards; shampoos carpets; replaces light bulbs, and empties waste
baskets and pencil sharpeners.
- Removes
snow from designated areas.
- Washes
windows, walls, light fixtures and furniture.
- Operates
vacuum cleaners, floor machines, and other mechanical equipment.
- May move
or assemble furniture or equipment.
- Checks and
logs boiler.
- Performs
tasks involved in setting up and cleaning after evening activities in the
assigned building.
- May be
responsible for checking building use permit and building security.
- Responsible
for locking up building at night when leaving.
- Responsible
for off-hours coverage of school events when assigned by the building
manager or foreman.
- Clean body
fluid spills.
- May be
responsible for calling in all work order requests in the absence of the
building manager.
· Removes snow.
· Performs other duties as
assigned.
