The
Aleutians East Borough School District is seeking a dynamic, energetic and
dedicated individual for the position of Music Teacher for the Sand Point
School located on beautiful Popof Island. Sand Point School is a K-12 School
with an enrollment of approximately 105 students. Popof Island is just off the
coast of the southern tip of the Alaskan Peninsula approximately 600 miles
southwest of Anchorage. The School District serves 5 communities in the region
from Sand Point down to Akutan, a distance in diameter of 250 miles. The
communities have a rich cultural heritage of several Aleut tribes with a strong
historical multi-ethnic influence from centuries of people drawn to the area
for the abundant fisheries, mining, and beauty of the land/seascape. The
community is very family oriented with strong/supportive parental involvement
in the school.
The
successful candidate will have responsibility for small band/orchestra instruction,
chorus, beginning elementary music,
supplemented by some classes for Art instruction.
Minimum
Qualifications:
*Alaska
Teaching Certification (or ability to acquire one upon hire) with an
endorsement in Music Education.
*Note:
An Alaska “Type C” certificate is potentially obtainable for a college graduate
with several years of proven professional music and/or orchestral experience.
