ENGLEWOOD SCHOOLS POSITION TITLE: AVID Tutor (4 positions)
EFFECTIVE: September 2012 through end of 2012 - 2013 school year
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is designed to reinforce curricula presented by
teachers to students. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Facilitate and support small groups of students, grades 9 - 12, in
various subject areas. Promotes a learning environment respecting
the dignity of the child and is perceived by students as fair and
consistent. Supports a learning environment that establishes
routines and provides for student engagement through questioning,
collaboration, and inquiry. Encourages a learning environment that
is safe for responding and questioning, even for the shyest
student. Take an active part in developing the academic and
personal strength of AVID students Become thoroughly grounded in
AVID strategies. Assist students in the successful completion of
college eligibility requirements. Provide academic support for
students in rigorous courses. Serve as a role model to AVID
students. Elicit responses from every member of the group. Ensure
understanding of material by all students. Lead multi-level
students to work together effectively. Assist the AVID elective
teacher(s) in reviewing student notes and notebooks. Complete 16
hour training in AVID tutor methodologies. Perform other related
duties as assigned or requested. SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL
RESPONSIBILITY: None BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITY:
Implements effective and efficient process management strategies
(e.g., procedures, instructional groups, transition materials and
supplies). The education/training, license/certification, general

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Associates degree OR 48 college
semester hours OR Pass the WorkKeys assessments in Reading for
Information, Math and Business Writing provided by the school
district. English fluency will be determined through the
application and interview process. LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION: Valid
Colorado Driver's License. GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: Is flexible. Has
computer/technology skills. Has reliable transportation to
Englewood High School. Has the ability to work with students with
diverse backgrounds and abilities. Has the ability to work
cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers. Has the ability to
understand and follow complex oral and written instructions. Has
the ability to perform responsibilities without the necessity of
close supervision. Has the ability to effectively communicate with
the School District community. Has the ability to analyze,
instruct, negotiate, coordinate, communicate, problem solve and use
interpersonal skills. Has the ability to compare, compute,
synthesize and evaluate. Has the ability to meet attendance
standards and work the hours necessary to perform the essential
functions. Maintain confidentiality. Maintains a generally positive
attitude. Observes all District policies and procedures. Adheres to
federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies. ESSENTIAL
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequently lifting 5 (five) to 10 (ten)
pounds. Occasional lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds. Frequent
sitting, bending, walking, and standing. Occasional stooping,
kneeling, squatting, and reaching. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise
level in the work environment is usually quiet. Mostly clean and
comfortable. REPORTS TO: Principal or designee. LOCATION: Englewood
High School. SALARY: $13.04 - $17.74 per hour, depending on
