Pay Rate:  $15.60 per hour / No Benefits

 

I. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Minimum Educational Requirements:

1. Education equivalent to an Associates' Degree and at least two years experience working with intercity at-risk youth andlor youth programs; post secondary education in applicable fields (Le. social work, psychology, business, etc.) may be substituted for required work experience on a year-for-year basis

B. Minimum General Requirements:

1. Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills

2. Computer experience, knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), other District-level utilized computer softwarelprograms, and e-mail

3. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment in carrying out responsibilities

4. Ability to work within deadlines, manage multiple assignments and priorities within a fast paced environment

5. Possess excellent work habits, ability to be flexible, work cooperatively, a desire to become an effective team member displaying a professional demeanor

6. Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency highly desirable

7. Possess valid Michigan driver's license

8. Ability to relate professionally with students, parents, and staff

II. PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To provide year-round program support for at-risk youth for completion of high school diploma and preparation for full time employment.

III. DIMENSIONS OF POSITION:

Represent the school district with in-school youth programs for Bay City Public Schools.

IV. RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. To communicate effectively with parents, students, teachers, and administrators.

B. To collect data accurately as required for the Michigan Works Grant Program and School District.

C. To attend in-service training sessions as needed.

D. To assist students and parents in resolving identified problems. This may require working with school administrators, teachers, aides, and community agencies.

F. Provide services for individual students which foster security and satisfaction, promote selfdirection, self-improvement, encouragement, and creativity.

G. Abide by the policies of the Board of Education, the policies of the Michigan Works Grant Program, and directives issued by the school administration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

• Maintains discretion and loyalty with confidential information.

• Conducts intake, program orientations, and placement sessions.

• Assists in the development and implementation of Individual Services Strategy for each participant.

• Coaches participants and monitors their involvement and progress in program activities (Le. basic skills upgrade, work-readiness training, work experience), including work site visitations

• Identifies and coordinates supportive services for participants, including referrals to communitybased programs

• Maintains case files to ensure participant progress is documented and compliant to applicable WIA's regulations

• Completes all required MIS paperwork and documentation related to participants' enrollment and completion of program

• Submits timely reports as requested by Program Coordinator/or Director

• Possesses knowledge of the policies of the school district as applicable to the position.

• Demonstrates ability to be flexible in dealing with staff, students, and parents.

• Demonstrates strong organizational skills.

• Demonstrates the ability to work without direct supervision.

• Maintains effective oral and written communication.

• Maintains a calm demeanor when dealing with a crisis/violent situation.

• Performs other related duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises students.

QUALIFICA TION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write

simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group

situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to perform basic math computations including rates, ratio, and percents using whole numbers,

common fractions, and decimals. Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions furnished in

written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in

standardized situations. Demonstrated ability to use good judgment in making decisions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Previous work with at-risk youth. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff

and the school community_ Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability

to perform duties through knowledge of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information with a high degree of discretion and loyalty.
