A Type 73 School Service Personnel Certificate with School
Nurse
Endorsement.

General Responsibility:
The school nurse shall assume leadership
in providing a school health service which will promote,
protect, and maintain the health of students and
staff.
Specific Responsibilities:
1.
Oversee the collection, assessment and
maintenance of complete and accurate health records on all
students.
2.
Plan and supervise the safe, effective
administration of medication needed to maintain the child in
school within district and state policy guidelines.
3.
Organize, supervise and follow up assessment
programs including (but not limited to) vision & hearing
screening, spinal screening, and sports physical exams done in
school.
4.
Obtain health histories and pertinent
medical reports for case study evaluations.
5.
Perform vision and hearing screening on
those students involved in case study evaluations whose
staffing dates are before or more than 6 months after the
regular screening, and on other students as indicated.
6.
Participate in team meetings,
multidisciplinary staffings and annual reviews as
requested.
7.
Serve as a consultant to staff members
regarding the health needs of specific students.
8.
Acquaint the administrator, other school
personnel, students and their parents with community
organizations, and resources as needed.
Health Education and Counseling:
1.
Participate in the total health education
program by acting as a consultant/resource person and providing
special classroom presentations, particularly in the area of
drug abuse prevention education.
2.
Provide inservice programs on health topics
to parents and school staff.
Administrative and Professional
Responsibilities:
1.
Participate in the formulation, evaluation,
and periodic review and revision of objectives, standards,
policies and functions of school nurse services and the entire
school health program.
2.
Be responsible for preparation of the School
Health Office budget and ordering of Health Office
supplies.
3.
Provide appropriate preventive health
program through direct classroom instruction.
4.
Participate as a member of the pupil
personnel team through consultation with guidance counselor,
social worker, principal and related services and staff.
