Master’s Degree; Valid
Illinois Type #75 certificate preferred.
Desired Experience or Training
experience as Athletic Director; certification in Physical Education; coaching
experience in various sports; school administrative leadership experience.
Special Requirements of the Position
Understanding of the proper place
of interscholastic athletics in the educational program and a broad knowledge
of boys and girls sports; ability to plan, organize, schedule and administer a
large activities program; knowledge of NCAA rules and procedures for student
eligibility; ability to work effectively and diplomatically with coaches and
others; public speaking and writing abilities; sensitivity to the emotional
involvement of persons in school athletic programs; ability to oversee the
total implementation of an adequate and economical program; ability to manage
budget finances; ability to provide leadership and support throughout the
community, including an ongoing positive promotion of district athletic
programs with the media. Experience in
planning, coordinating, and promoting major athletic events and programs, and
experience planning and supervising an athletic transportation program.

Types of Activities Performed Frequently
and short-range planning of district athletic programs; arranging for
facilities, services, equipment, and personnel necessary to conduct athletic
programs effectively; supervising personnel assigned to the activities;
assuring skill development and teaching in every sport; developing strong
athletic programs through interaction with feeder schools.

Speaking engagements; attend out-of-district meetings.
Supervises and coordinates the school program of
interscholastic athletics and activities.
Arrange athletic schedules in cooperation with the

and provisions concerning athletic activities.
Assists with the planning and design of athletic
Keeps the superintendent and building principal
informed of the status of school and conference athletic programs, and promptly
informs them of major problems.
Solicits, recommends, assigns, supervises and
evaluates athletic coaches.
Schedules outside organizations in use of facilities
and coordinates with building managers.
Provides guidance to the intramurals coordinator.
Supervises all ticket sales for athletic contests and
assumes responsibility for proper handling and accounting of monies involved.
Arranges all visiting teams’ needs, gymnasium services
and field assistance as appropriate.
Coordinates tournaments and invitationals assigned by
the Illinois High School Association and the West Suburban Conference and those
hosted by Proviso West High School, including the Holiday Tournament.
Develops and implements appropriate rules and
regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
Verifies each athlete’s eligibility according to the
Illinois High School Association’s rules and sends eligibility lists to hosts
of Illinois High School Association’s tournaments.
Maintains records of a physical examination,
waiver/insurance and parents’ consent for all athletes.
Plans and supervises recognition programs for athletic
Attends administrative, departmental, district, and
conference meetings as required.
Assists in the establishment of District #209 goals
and objectives for physical education and athletics.
Evaluates the effectiveness of district athletic
programs on an on-going basis and make recommendation for improvement.
Evaluates the effectiveness and cost management of athletic
transportation program and make recommendations for improvement.
Assures that athletes and coaches are in compliance
with the West Suburban Conference and Illinois High School Association rules
Provides liaison between Proviso’s Booster Clubs and
Fosters good school/community relations.
Formally evaluates athletic secretary.
Maintains good rapport and on-going communication
among the coaching staff.
Exercises risk care management: 1) to ensure that statutory and common law
health and safety rights are extended to all visitors, employees and students;
2) to ensure that the buildings and grounds are maintained in a safe condition;
and 3) to provide supervision and protection of the district’s real and

students participating in all athletic competition and daily activities.
Stays professionally current in the field of
athletics, coaching techniques, supervision and administration.
Knowledgeable about Illinois High School Association
(IHSA) rules and regulations, and stays in strict compliance with all IHSA
rules and regulations.
