QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree; (Master's degree preferred) valid Texas teacher certificate; Special Education or Physical Education certificate; Adapted P.E. preferred
  • Three years classroom experience or related experience
  • Knowledge of and training in instructional strategies
  • Expertise in adapted physical education assessment and instruction of students with significant cognitive delays, including research-based teaching techniques, instructional delivery, and instructional materials
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with parents/guardians
  • Experience in program implementation, and interpretation of federal and state regulations
  • Knowledge of curriculum trends, innovative programs and best practices for students with significant motor delays
  • Must have own transportation & ability to work independently

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS

  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of adapted physical education services to students with significant motoric delays
  • Interface with teachers, parents, and other staff to assess student needs and make recommendations regarding programs for students
  • Provide ongoing training opportunities for the teaching staff regarding motor activities and instructional programming activities
  • Collaborate with other departments and divisions to ensure instructional program implementation, LRE, and FAPE for all students
  • Provide technical assistance to principals and teachers in the implementation of adalted physical education curriculum, selection of instructional materials and instructional delivery
  • Conduct campus visits to observe students in their educational setting and complete required classroom visit documentation
  • Participate in Admissions, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings and case conferences for students, as deemed appropriate
  • Keep abreast of technical, professional, and legislative trends affecting instructional programming, and disseminate information to appropriate district personnel
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned
