POSITION: Special Education Teacher (Living Skills Program)

LOCATION:  Spring Creek Elementary School

SALARY: $40,535 annual salary minimum

CONTRACT: 185-day contract for the 2012-13 school year only

START DATE: ASAP

CLOSING DATE: When Filled

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold, or be eligible to hold, a certificate issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board with an endorsement as a special education teacher. Other desired qualifications include: Excellent knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and procedures; knowledge of scientifically researched-based materials and curriculum, and positive behavior intervention and support systems; understanding of and experience working with students with wide variety of disabilities, including autism, physical disabilities, and mental disabilities; love, understanding, respect, and realistic expectations for students; willingness to work with teachers to plan cooperatively to benefit students; ability to supervise and work well with paraprofessionals; excellent classroom management skills; ability to support existing programs; strong interpersonal skills; good public relations skills in dealing with professional and support staffs and parents; and willingness to participate on school and District committees and in required inservice activities.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The following are characteristic responsibilities for this position: Teach and plan for Life Skills Math, English, Science, and Social Life Skills; hygiene; relationships/personal boundaries; create and facilitate behavior management plans; conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs); administer PAWS-Alt., Aimsweb assessments, and other required assessments; communicate with other teachers, parents, related service providers, and outside agencies regarding Life Skills student progress/behaviors and other issues; provide advice to parents regarding child/adult waiver, behavior management plans, etc.; prepare, implement, and monitor progress of IEPs; help hire, train, and supervise paraprofessionals; and other related duties.
