Job Purpose and Focus
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Support
Services, provides speech and language therapy services to
students with articulation, voice, fluency, pragmatic and/or
language disorders, as well as to students having auditory
impairments.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements

Master's Degree

Understanding of special education administrative
rules and laws

Ability to assess eligibility for speech and
language services

Ability to effectively communicate information and
ideas in speaking and writing

Essential Functions and Representative
Duties
?
Identify, assess, and remediate students who have
deficits in speech and language which interfere with progress in
the general curriculum
?
Participate in child study team meetings, related to
the pre-referral process
?
Conduct achievement testing and interrupt
results
?
Assist in the organization and coordination of
building evaluation and IEPT meeting schedules
?
Complete required student initial evaluations and
re-evaluations and develop legally compliant IEPs and assessment
reports
?
Maintain and process appropriate records/reports
?
Manage a caseload in compliance with Michigan
Administrative Rules for Special Education
?
Understand the CIMS process
?
Serve as a resource person to parents regarding
rules, program, and service options
?
Organize identified students into instructional
groups and provide an instructional program designed to address
speech language delays
?
Consult with teachers of identified students with
speech and language and hearing impairments
?
Provide information and resources to students,
parents, and teachers
?
Make periodic reports regarding educational progress
toward goals/objectives to parents and school personnel for each
student on caseload
?
Maintain required records and reports as
directed
?
Comply with all laws, timelines, and district
requirements related to paperwork of services provided to special
education students
?
Perform other duties as assigned
Terms of Employment
Wages and benefits as outlined in the Collective Bargaining
Agreement with The Board of Education.
Work Environment
Work
is normally performed in a typical interior/office work
environment. There is limited exposure to physical risk.
Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are
required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job
assignment without direct supervision. Must be able to work
toward district goals.
