Title: Part Time Math/Science Instructional Coach
Reports to: School Director
Civitas Schools is an
educational management organization, which operates three campuses of Chicago
International Charter School (CICS). We serve approximately 2100 students
in grades Kindergarten through 12, on three sites: CICS Ralph Ellison High
School, CICS Northtown Academy High School, and CICS Wrightwood Elementary

Position
Summary:
The Math and Science Team Leader is
responsible for supporting improved implementation of the curriculum,
instruction and student achievement at the high school level by working
directly with classroom teachers. The primary lever
of change is high quality one on one instructional coaching with math and
science teachers. Additionally, this position is
responsible for ensuring that teachers have adequate instructional materials
and supplies and understand how to implement high-quality relevant curricula,
instruction, and assessments to support the continued acceleration of student
learning across the content areas. The Team Lead
should be an instructional specialist, well versed in the knowledge of strategies
for providing quality instruction, utilizing student data to improve
instruction and able to support teachers and teacher teams to be responsive to
the needs identified in this analysis. As a part of this role the Team
Lead will also be responsible for giving feedback on unit and lesson plans for
each teacher in the department. Finally the position will require the Team Lead
to attend staff meetings and professional development and network-wide unit
planning meetings as requested by the School Director.

feedback and instructional coaching that is focused on using professional
teaching standards (especially Charlotte Danielson's Framework for
Teaching) to support teacher growth in the service of student
learning
- Ability to provide constructive feedback on
unit plans in a timely manner that is effectively used to guide teacher
reflection, learning and planning, inform instruction and increase student
learning.
- Understanding of and experience in leading
professional development that is targeted to the needs of the teachers,
small group or individual in a manner that demonstrates best practices in
the actual delivery of this professional development.
- Deep knowledge of curricular models and
resources across all content areas.
- Strong personal presence and communication
skills necessary to effectively develop meaningful professional
relationships and interact with a diverse array of internal and external
stakeholders.
- Highly professional, including integrity and
confidentiality.
- Reflective and Data driven.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience and at
least two years as a instructional leader/coach. History of significant,
positive results in the classroom.
- ISBE Certification (Type 9) for HS Math and/or
Science with subject area endorsements
- Ability to recognize and support strong instruction
based on research-based methods (Familiarity with Charlotte Danielson
Framework for Teaching a plus)
- Strong track record as a staff developer
and/or coach as demonstrated through measured improvements in teacher
expertise or student performance
- Deep knowledge of instructional and planning
methodologies rooted in analysis of data
- Excellent organizational, planning and
implementation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint,
Word and Outlook
Working Conditions:
The Team
Lead position will require several hours per week of observing teachers
professional practice and conducting one on one, or group coaching sessions to
offer support for teacher development.
Civitas would prefer to have someone on staff part time (20 hrs a week),
to perform the coaching duties, and to participate in Professional
Development. There is currently not a
teaching requirement for the position. However, as the school year develops, it
is possible that the team lead would be asked to lead 1-2 sections of math. Finally Civitas is also willing to consider
hiring someone as an independent contractor, on an hourly basis to manage these
responsibilities, if such a situation would be more ideal for the candidate.
