  Description:
Assist in conducting intensified learning experience for students in assigned area and relieve teacher of various non-instructional duties 
  • Assist teacher in management of student arrival and departure time 
  • Perform supportive tasks for that is primarily of a non-instructional nature
  • Assist teacher and students in achieving the objectives of the program or activities 
  • Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher 
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays 
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom 
  • Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow-up learning activities 
  • Help teacher supervise students throughout the day, inside and outside the classroom, including hall, lunchroom, auditorium, gym, and playground
  • Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports 
  • Assist teacher with copying, organizing, and filing materials for distribution to students 
  • Help with the inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment 
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students 
  • Participate in staff-development training programs to improve job performance
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned 
  •  Help decorate the classroom for special events, PTA meetings, holidays, etc. 
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned 
  • All Federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriateQualifications:
     
    • Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency), plus one of the following:  Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, pass an academic assessment
    • Paraprofessional certificate required from State Board of Certification
    • Successful completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants or six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience preferred
    • Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups.
    • Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills required to meet the goals of the position.
    • Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Demonstrated effective communication skills both in oral and written form
    • Demonstrated ability to relate to students and parents in a positive manner
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred
