About
Bozeman Public Schools
Description: Montana Campus Corps is a program of Americorps. The mission of the Montana Campus Corps is to actively engage college students in meeting community-identified needs through meaningful service. The program is sponsored by the Montana Campus Compact. Bozeman Public School District #7 has identified under performing elementary grades (2-8) mathematics students as a population that would benefit from academic support through mentoring. The Campus Corps Volunteer Member will serve as mathematics mentor to provide direct services to identified students in grades two through eight. Students identified for mentoring will work on grade level student materials that will be supported by teacher materials provided by the District to mentors.
Responsibilities:
Participate in training to develop an understanding of the Bozeman Mathematics Standards and instructional materials including, but not limited to, Everyday Mathematics and Connected Math project 2.
Work with classroom teachers, building administrators and District Administrators to develop a plan for meeting the needs of identified students.
Provide targeted assistance with concepts contained in the Bozeman Mathematics Curriculum Standards and including, but not limited to, algebra, geometry, number sense, measurement, data analysis, probability, statistics, and automaticity of math facts in preparation for District and State Mathematics assessment.
Administer formative and summative assessments in order to monitor student progress.
Work with MSU America Reads, America Counts program to potentially secure additional math tutors to work with highest need students.
Create and maintain records of all activities, including tracking all students worked with and progress.
Prepare summaries/reports for school contacts as requested.

Attend weekly meetings with Campus Corps Team Leader or Campus based supervisor.
Prepare and submit all required Americorps reports in a timely fashion.
Perform other Americorps, Campus Corps or BSD 7 Math Mentors duties.
Qualifications:
Must be able to complete 300 hours of service between August 15, 2012 and August 14, 2013. Must be willing to commit approx. 10-15 hours/wk over the academic year to this project. Must be 17 years of age by August 15, 2012. Enrolled in 6 or more credits at MSU during the academic year. Must have access to reliable transportation, as driving will be required. Ability to maintain good personal hygiene and wear suitable clothing for work in the community. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently, while also functioning as a team player. Flexibility-needs shift as students are identified for support and exited from support. Effective communication skills with adults and adolescent children. Capable of successfully completing mathematical problems and critical thinking at a level meeting or exceeding Algebra II standards.
Benefits:
Upon successful completion of one year 300 hour term of service, you will receive a stipend living allowance of $1200.
You may be eligible to receive and Education Award to be used to pay form future college tuition or post-secondary training, or to repay qualifying federal student loans.
