Starting 2012-2013 School Year

 

 

One (1) Position:               East Union Elementary

   7.0 hrs/day

   Monday through Friday (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)

                                       Rate of pay:  $24.14 per hour

Responsible To:   Building Principal/District Licensed School Nurse

 

Position Purpose:   Provide health services for students at assigned school building

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:   Registered Nurse with CPR/AED Certification.   See Reverse Side

 

Benefits of Employment as of July 1, 2010:   Eligible for benefits as negotiated with District 112 and Registered Nurses.  This position is eligible for overtime and comp time.

Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

 

Provide direct medical care for students

 

§  Medical treatments per physician's orders

§  Maintain system for providing first aid and emergency care

§  Identify health problems of students through health assessment

§  Administer medications per physician's orders and parent consent

 

§  Current Registered Nurse Licensure

§  Excellent judgmental skills pertaining to timing in accessing emergency services

§  Body systems assessment skills

§  Current CPR training

§  Experience in school health office preferred

§  Excellent organizational skills

§  Flexibility

§  Demonstrates concern for student's interest

Conduct developmental health screening for students

§  Implement screening programs to assess health and developmental status of students

§  Re-screen students per guidelines

§  Make referrals per policy guidelines

§  Screen all new students and students per parent and/or teacher request

§  Experience with screening preferred

Communicate with students, staff, families and health care providers concerning health issues

§  Monitor and review student health records

§  Provide health counseling to students and families to assist them in making health decisions

§  Communicate current health problems, needs and concerns of students to their parents, health care providers and appropriate school staff

§  Assist students and parents in identifying and utilizing available and appropriate community health resources

§  Provide blood borne pathogen training to building employees hired after the start of the school year

§  Report child abuse per guidelines

§  Develop and revise IHP's for students who have a health issue that affects their learning

§  Evidence of excellent human relations skills, especially the ability to be a team player

§  Ability to maintain confidentiality

§  Friendly manner

§  Positive manner

§  Knowledge of mandated child abuse reporting

§  Knowledge of IHP development

Monitor communicable diseases

 

 

Specific Tasks

§  Maintain a system for documentation of communicable disease

§  Communicate communicable diseases within classrooms to families per policy guidelines

§  Arrange flu shot clinic for building staff

§  Monitor student immunizations - input to district computer system

§  Arrange immunization clinics for students to keep current with MN state requirements

§  Maintain attendance as appropriate per building

Monitor health and safety hazards for students and staff

§  Report environmental health and safety hazards for students and staff
